Overall hardware sales decreased by 23 percent week-on-week, due to being the week after Grand Theft Auto V. Week-on-week sales is up for the Wii, Wii U, PSP, and Vita. Overall year-on-year sales are down 10 percent. The PlayStation 3 and 3DS are up year-over-year. The DS has the biggest drop year-on-year by percent, at 76 percent
Six games debuted in the top 30 this week, up from three last week. FIFA Soccer 14 (PS3) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 1.86 million units. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number two with sales of 1.57 million units.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Grand Theft Auto V (X360) passed the 10 million mark and Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) passed the 10 million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for the Wii and Wii U, and down for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. PlayStation 3 sales are down 124,731 (-38%) to 335,789 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 57,887 (-32%) to 122,782 units sold. The Wii U sold 43,514 units, an increase of 9,550 (28%). The Wii sold 19,046 units, an increase of 50 (0%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the PSP and Vita, and down for the DS and 3DS. The 3DS sold 218,716 units, which is down 30,605 (-12%) week-on-week. The PSP is up 2,357 (8%) to 33,389 units sold. The PlayStation Vita sold 29,918 units which is up 3,242 (12%) compared to last week. The DS is down 416 (-6%) to 6,944 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 198,440 units (-23%) to 679,578 units sold.
The PlayStation 3 and 3DS are up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is up 13,409 (7%), the Wii is down 19,401 (-50%), and the Xbox 360 is down 28,098 (-19%). The PSP is down 49,178 (-60%), the DS is down 22,552 (-76%), the Vita is down 24,001 (-45%) and the 3DS is up 9,779 (5%). Year on year sales are down 76,528 units (-10%).
Home console hardware sales have decreased for the PlayStation and Xbox 360 for one week and the Wii for three weeks. However, the Wii U has increased for two straight weeks. The PlayStation 3 has led for 38 straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for 12 straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 59 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 36 percent market share; and the Wii has a five percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U are up, while the Wii is down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the PSP and Vita for one week. The DS has decreased for one week and the DS for two weeks. The PSP has outsold the Vita for 13 straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased this week to 189,000 units, from 223,000 units last week.
The PSP has an 83 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has a 17 percent market share. The 3DS has a 88 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 12 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the 3DS is up, while the PSP, DS, and Vita are down.
Worldwide Software
Six games debuted in the top 30 this week, up from three last week. FIFA Soccer 14 (PS3) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 1.86 million units. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number two with sales of 1.57 million units. The PC version debuted at number 24 with sales of 20,891. The Vita version debuted at number 28 with sales of 17,458. The game launched in North America and Europe.
The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki (PSV) debuted at number six with sales of 85,471. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number eight with sales of 69,426. The game launched in Japan.
Armored Core: Verdict Day (PS3) debuted at number 10 with sales of 62,753. The game launched in Japan.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (WiiU) debuted at number 16 with sales of 30,779. The game launched in North America and Japan.
Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai Happy EnD (PS3) debuted at number 17 with sales of 29,412. The game launched in Japan.
Musou Orochi 2: Ultimate (PSV) debuted at number 19 with sales of 25,233. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) is at number three with sales of 1.55 million units. Grand Theft Auto V (X360) is at number four with sales of 1.42 million units. Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) is at number five with sales of 220,256.
Warriors of Orochi 3 (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 81,368. Minecraft (X360) is at number nine with sales of 63,018.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the Wii and Wii U, and down for the Wii and Wii U. The PlayStation 3 sold 4.57 million games this week, a decrease of 5.20 million units (-53%). The Xbox 360 sold 3.73 million games, a decrease of 5.96 million units (-62%). Wii software sales are up 7,814 units (2%) to 329,846 games sold. The Wii U sold 154,050 games, an increase of26,463 (21%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the DS, PSP and Vita, and down for the 3DS. The 3DS sold 531,908 games, which is down 250,551 units (-32%). The DS sold 201,186 games, an increase of 5,921 units (-3%) week-on-week. PlayStation Vita game sales are up 106,904 units (126%) to 191,645 games sold. The PSP sold 117,851 games, an increase of 8,045 (-7%). Total combined software is down 11.25 million units (-53%) week-on-week to 9.83 million.
Year-on-year software totals is up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, 3DS, and Vita, and down for the Wii, DS and PSP. The PlayStation 3 is up 606,506 units (15%), the Wii is down 221,506 units (-40%) and the Xbox 360 is up 643,051 units (21%). The DS is down 106,896 units (-35%), the PSP is down 267,425 units (-69%), the 3DS is up 69,057 units (15%), and the Vita is up 20,062 units (12%). Total combined software is up 899,899 units (10%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii U for two weeks and the Wii for one week. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 software sales have decreased for one week.
The PlayStation 3 has a 53 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 43 percent market share, and the Wii has a four percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U are up, while the Wii and Wii U are down.
3DS software sales have decreased for two weeks. DS, PSP and Vita software sales have increased for one week each. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold nearly three times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold 42 percent more games as the PSP.
The DS has a 63 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 37 percent market share. The 3DS has a 74 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 26 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Vita is up, and the 3DS, PSP and DS are down.
