Overall hardware sales increased by nine percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and 3DS, and down for the Wii, Wii U, DS, PSP, and Vita. Overall year-on-year sales are down 27 percent. The PlayStation 3 is the only platform to be up year-over-year. The DS has the biggest drop year-on-year by percent, at 75 percent
Four games debuted in the top 30 this week, which is down from last week. Madden NFL 25 (X360) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 591,229. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number two with sales of 509,747. The game launched in North America.
There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and down for the Wii and Wii U. PlayStation 3 sales are up 25,799 (19%) to 158,476 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 4,058 (5%) to 82,184 units sold. The Wii U sold 27,357 units, a decrease of 1,556 (-5%). The Wii sold 22,540 units, a decrease of 167 (-1%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the 3DS, and down for the PSP, DS, and Vita. The 3DS sold 149,655 units, which is up 14,520 (11%) week-on-week. The PSP is down 242 (-1%) to 36,543 units sold. The PlayStation Vita sold 33,459 units which is down 853 (-2%) compared to last week. The DS is down 333 (-4%) to 8,103 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 41,226 units (9%) to 518,317 units sold.
The PlayStation 3 is the only platform to be up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is up 18,523 (13%), the Wii is down 28,845 (-56%), and the Xbox 360 is down 33,852 (-29%). The PSP is down 16,369 (-31%), the DS is down 24,239 (-75%), the Vita is down 49,247 (-60%) and the 3DS is down 86,559 (-37%). Year on year sales are down 193,231 units (-27%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for three weeks. The Wii has decreased for two weeks and the Wii U for three weeks. The PlayStation 3 has led for 34 straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for eight straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 60 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 31 percent market share; and the Wii has a nine percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation and Wii U are up, while the Xbox 360 and Wii are down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the 3DS for one week. The DS has decreased for one week and the PSP and Vita for two weeks. The PSP has outsold the Vita for nine straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased slightly this week to 116,000 units, from 101,000 units last week.
The PSP has an 82 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has an 18 percent market share. The 3DS has an 82 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has an 18 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
Worldwide Software

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle (PS3) debuted at number four with sales of 415,952. The game launched in Japan.
Lost Planet 3 (PS3) debuted at number 12 with sales of 52,867. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number 24 with sales of 27,252. The game launched worldwide.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Saints Row IV (X360) is at number five with sales of 208,447. Final Fantasy XIV Online (PC) is at number six with sales of 152,489. Saints Row IV (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 121,015. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist (X360) is at number eight with sales of 107,409. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist (PS3) is at number nine with sales of 69,956. Minecraft (X360) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 54,647.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and down for the Wii and Wii U. The PlayStation 3 sold 2.61 million games this week, an increase of 1.09 million units (71%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.80 million games, an increase of 39,858 units (2%). Wii software sales are down 61,640 units (-13%) to 413,430 games sold. The Wii U sold 166,053 games, a decrease of 7,946 (-5%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the PSP and Vita, and down for the DS, and 3DS. The 3DS sold 398,125 games, which is down 147,313 units (-11%). The DS sold 252,548 games, a decrease of 2,756 units (-1%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 138,979 games, an increase of 16,823 (14%). PlayStation Vita game sales are up 5,226 units (5%) to 115,854 games sold. Total combined software is up 1.03 million units (21%) week-on-week to 5.89 million.
Year-on-year software totals is up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and down for the Wii, DS, PSP, Vita, and 3DS. The PlayStation 3 is up 848,550 units (48%), the Wii is down 170,881 units (-29%) and the Xbox 360 is up 105,225 units (6%). The DS is down 75,100 units (-23%), the PSP is down 81,277 units (-37%), the 3DS is down 344,330 units (-46%), and the Vita is down 139,206 units (-55%). Total combined software is up 309,034 units (6%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Xbox 360 for three weeks and two weeks for the PlayStation 3. Sales have decreased for one week for the Wii and Wii U.
The PlayStation 4 has a 54 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 37 percent market share, and the Wii has a nine percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U are up, while the Wii is down.
3DS software sales have been cut in half in five weeks, however it still sold the most software. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than three times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold nearly twice as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 65 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 35 percent market share. The 3DS has a 77 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 23 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
