Overall, hardware sale this week is down by two percent. Week-on-week sales are up for the PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, PS4, and PS Vita. Overall year-on-year sales are up by four percent. The Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and 3DS are up year-on-year.
Eight games debuted in the top 30 this week and Bloodborne (PS4) is this week’s top debut. It debuted at number one with sales of 731,497 units.
Software milestones this week: Battlefield: Hardline (PS4) passed the one million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are up for the PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, and PS4. PlayStation 4 sales are up by 3,703 (1%) to 314,139 units sold. Xbox One sales are down by 9,129 (-9%) to 96,327 units sold. The Wii U sold 41,383 units, a decrease of 9,018 (-18%). PlayStation 3 sales are up by 3,703 (10%) to 40,941 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up by 1,918 (10%) to 21,560 units sold. The Wii sold 1,985 units, an increase of 152 (8%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are up for the PlayStation Vita. The 3DS sold 132,184 units, which is a decrease of 7,247 (-5%). The PlayStation Vita sold 51,184 units, which is up 3,838 (8%) when compared to last week. Week on week sales are down by 12,000 (8%) to 699,703 units.
The Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and 3DS are up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 45,663 (-53%), the Wii is down 10,242 (-84%), the Xbox 360 is down 23,288 (-52%), the Wii U is up 2,373 (6%), the PlayStation 4 is up 115,818 (58%), and the Xbox One is up 26,217 (37%). The Vita is down 15,420 (-23%) and the 3DS is down 12,220 (-8%). Year on year sales are up by 24,016 units (4%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the PlayStation 4 for two weeks, and one week for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. Sales have decreased for the Xbox One and Wii U for one week.
The PlayStation 3 has a 63 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 34 percent market share; and the Wii has a three percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has 70 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has 21 percent market share, and the Wii U has nine percent market share.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the PlayStation Vita for three straight weeks and decreased for six weeks for the 3DS. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased this week to 81,000 units, from 92,000 units last week.
The 3DS has 72 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has 28 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks both handhelds are up.
Worldwide Software
Software home console sales week-on-week are up for the PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, and PS4. The PlayStation 4 sold 2.12 million games this week, an increase of 262,597 units (14%). The PlayStation 3 sold 1.17 million games, an increase of 205,556 (21%). The Xbox 360 sold 712,406 games, an increase of 85,063 units (14%). Xbox One software sales are down by 203,139 units (-24%) to 635,959 games sold. The Wii U sold 342,815 games, a decrease of 97,983 (-22%). The Wii sold 313,694 games, an increase of 56,030 (22%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week are down across the board. The 3DS sold 593,285 games, which is up 119,490 units (25%). Vita game sales are up by 253,344 units (113%) to 476,691 games sold. The DS sold 258,261 games, an increase of 44,166 units (21%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 78,859 games, an increase of 9,999 (15%). Total combined software is up by 735,123 units (12%) week-on-week to 6.71 million.
Year-on-year software totals are up for the 3DS, Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One. The PlayStation 3 is down 583,589 units (-33%), the Wii is down 87,486 units (-22%), the Xbox 360 is down 280,421 units (-28%), the Wii U is up 144,201 units (73%), the PS4 is up 1,484,114 units (233%), and the Xbox One is up 321,514 units (102%). The DS is down 45,529 units (-15%), the PSP is down 48,128 units (-38%), the 3DS is down 116,181 units (-16%), and the Vita is up 99,252 units (26%). Total combined software is up by 887,747 units (15%) games sold year-on-year.
The PlayStation 3 has 53 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has 33 percent market share; and the Wii has 14 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has 68 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has 21 percent market share, and the Wii U has 11 percent market share.
The DS has 77 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has 23 percent market share. The 3DS has 55 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has 45 percent market share.
