Overall hardware sales decreased by one percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are up for the Xbox 360, Wii U, and 3DS, and down for the PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, PSP, and Vita. Overall year-on-year sales are down 22 percent. There are no platforms up year-over-year. The DS has the biggest drop year-on-year by percent, at 76 percent
Four games debuted in the top 30 this week, which is the same as last week. Total War: Rome II (PC) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 169,494. The game launched in North America and Europe.
There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for the Xbox 360 and Wii, and down for the PlayStation 3 and Wii. PlayStation 3 sales are down 16,798 (-23%) to 137,452 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 4,179 (6%) to 76,532 units sold. The Wii U sold 23,618 units, an increase of 192 (1%). The Wii sold 20.718 units, a decrease of 1,822 (-8%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the 3DS, and down for the PSP, DS, and Vita. The 3DS sold 164,054 units, which is up 14,399 (10%) week-on-week. The PSP is down 2,698 (-7%) to 33.845 units sold. The PlayStation Vita sold 31,673 units which is down 1,786 (-5%) compared to last week. The DS is down 766 (-9%) to 7,337 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 5,100 units (-1%) to 485,229 units sold.
There are no platforms to be up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 7,614 (-6%), the Wii is down 23,795 (-53%), and the Xbox 360 is down 43,665 (-36%). The PSP is down 14,425 (-30%), the DS is down 23,404 (-76%), the Vita is down 9,586 (-23%) and the 3DS is down 34,068 (-17%). Year on year sales are down 132,939 units (-22%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the Xbox 360 for four weeks and the Wii U for one week. The PlayStation 3 has decreased for one week and the Wii for three weeks. The PlayStation 3 has led for 35 straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for nine straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 57 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 34 percent market share; and the Wii has a nine percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U are up, while the Wii is down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the 3DS for two weeks. The DS has decreased for two weeks and the PSP and Vita for three weeks. The PSP has outsold the Vita for 10 straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 132,000 units, from 116,000 units last week.
The PSP has an 82 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has an 18 percent market share. The 3DS has an 84 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 16 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the 3DS is up, while the PSP, DS, and Vita are down.
Worldwide Software
Four games debuted in the top 30 this week, which is the same as last week. Total War: Rome II (PC) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 169,494. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Diablo III (PS3) debuted at number two with sales of 164,674. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number four with sales of 147,186. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Uta no Price-Sama: Music 2 (PSP) debuted at number nine with sales of 66,037. The game launched in Japan.
Killzone: Mercenary (PSV) debuted at number 15 with sales of 33,857. The game launched in Japan and Europe.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Madden NFL 25 (X360) is at number three with sales of 149,461. Madden NFL 25 (PS3) is at number five with sales of 129,232.
Saints Row IV (X360) is at number six with sales of 115,735. Minecraft (X360) is at number seven with sales of 72,964. Saints Row IV (PS3) is at number eight with sales of 70,197. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist (PS3) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 63,287.
Software home console sales week-on-week is down across the board. The PlayStation 3 sold 1.42 million games this week, a decrease of 1.16 million units (-45%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.28 million games, a decrease of 549,863 units (-30%). Wii software sales are down 4,313 units (-10%) to 370,755 games sold. The Wii U sold 149,089 games, a decrease of 16,039 (-10%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the PSP and Vita, and down for the DS, and 3DS. The 3DS sold 339,485 games, which is down 67,863 units (-17%). The DS sold 227,888 games, a decrease of 224,660 units (-10%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 179,663 games, an increase of 40,684 (29%). PlayStation Vita game sales are up 389 units (0%) to 116,243 games sold. Total combined software is down 1.82 million units (-31%) week-on-week to 4.08 million.
Year-on-year software totals is up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PSP, and Vita, and down for the Wii, DS, and 3DS. The PlayStation 3 is up 185,910 units (15%), the Wii is down 160,457 units (-30%) and the Xbox 360 is up 219,516 units (21%). The DS is down 77,808 units (-25%), the PSP is up 12,630 units (8%), the 3DS is down 204,705 units (-38%), and the Vita is up 27,101 units (30%). Total combined software is up 151,276 units (4%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have decreased for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for one week. Sales have decreased for two week for the Wii and Wii U.
The PlayStation 4 has a 46 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 42 percent market share, and the Wii has a 12 percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago the Xbox 360,and Wii U are up, while the PlayStation 3 and Wii are down.
3DS software sales have dropped by nearly 500,000 units since the week ending July 27. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold nearly three times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold 21 percent more games as the PSP.
The DS has a 56 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 44 percent market share. The 3DS has a 74 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 26 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PSP is up, and the 3DS, DS, and Vita are down.
