Overall hardware sales decreased by seven percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales is up for the Wii and Wii U. Overall year-on-year sales are down 20 percent. The 3DS is the only platform up year-over-year. The DS has the biggest drop year-on-year by percent, at 79 percent
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week, down from six last week. NBA 2K14 (X360) debuted at number five with sales of 397,393 units. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number six with sales of 307,113 units. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Grand Theft Auto V (X360) passed the 11 million mark; Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) passed the 11 million mark; FIFA Soccer 14 (PS3) passed the two million mark; and FIFA Soccer 14 (X360) passed the two million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for the Wii and Wii U, and down for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. PlayStation 3 sales are down 53,306 (-26%) to 151,963 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 17,299 (-14%) to 105,483 units sold. The Wii U sold 83,504 units, an increase of 40,379 (94%). The Wii sold 21,480 units, an increase of 2,434 (13%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is down across the board. The 3DS sold 204,533 units, which is down 14,183 (-6%) week-on-week. The PSP is down 1,443 (-5%) to 30,195 units sold. The PlayStation Vita sold 23,787 units which is down 6,131 (-20%) compared to last week. The DS is down 522 (-8%) to 6,422 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 50,071 units (-7%) to 627,367 units sold.
The 3DS is up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 94,171 (-38%), the Wii is down 19,869 (-48%), and the Xbox 360 is down 52,376 (-14%). The PSP is down 36,803 (-55%), the DS is down 23,645 (-79%), the Vita is down 20,783 (-47%) and the 3DS is up 9,969 (5%). Year on year sales are down 154,174 units (-47%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the Wii U for three weeks and the Wii for one week. However, sales have decreased for the PlayStation and Xbox 360 for two weeks. PlayStation 3 has led for 39 straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for 13 straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 54 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 38 percent market share; and the Wii has an eight percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U are up, while the Wii is down.
Handheld hardware sales have decreased for the PSP and Vita for one week, the DS for two weeks and the 3DS for three weeks. The PSP has outsold the Vita for 14 straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased this week to 181,000 units, from 189,000 units last week.
The PSP has an 82 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has an 18 percent market share. The 3DS has a 90 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 10 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the 3DS is up, while the PSP, DS, and Vita are down.
Worldwide Software
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week, down from six last week. NBA 2K14 (X360) debuted at number five with sales of 397,393 units. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number six with sales of 307,113 units. The game launched in North America and Europe.
F1 2013 (PS3) debuted at number 10 with sales of 61,551. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number 11 with sales of 42,032. The game launched in Europe.
Just Dance 2014 (Wii) debuted at number 27 with sales of 16,063. The game launched in Europe.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) is at number one with sales of 1.08 million units. Grand Theft Auto V (X360) is at number two with sales of 951,537 units. FIFA Soccer 14 (PS3) is at number three with sales of 573,085. FIFA Soccer 14 (X360) is at number four with sales of 437,584.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (WiiU) is at number seven with sales of 273,702. Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) is at number eight with sales of 149,299. Minecraft (X360) is at number nine with sales of 63,852.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the Wii and Wii U, and down for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 sold 2.89 million games this week, a decrease of 1.75 million units (-38%). The Xbox 360 sold 32.53 million games, a decrease of 1.34 million units (-33%). Wii software sales are up 19,117 units (6%) to 348,963 games sold. The Wii U sold 402,903 games, an increase of248,853 (162%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the DS, and down for the PSP, Vita, and 3DS. The 3DS sold 463,034 games, which is down 68,874 units (-13%). The DS sold 207,737 games, an increase of 6,551 units (3%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 102,148 games, a decrease of 15,703 (-13%). PlayStation Vita game sales are down 106,705 units (-56%) to 84,940 games sold. Total combined software is down 2.90 million units (-29%) week-on-week to 7.03 million.
Year-on-year software totals is only up for the 3DS. The PlayStation 3 is down 951,417 units (-25%), the Wii is down 225,823 units (-39%) and the Xbox 360 is down 353,047 units (-12%). The DS is down 100,569 units (-34%), the PSP is down 157,607 units (-61%), the 3DS is up 84,698 units (2%), and the Vita is down 53,954 units (-39%). Total combined software is down 1.35 million units (-16%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii U for three weeks and the Wii for two weeks. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 software sales have decreased for two weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 50 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 44 percent market share, and the Wii has a six percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U are up, while the Wii is down.
DS software sales have increased for one week. PSP and Vita software sales have decreased for one week and the 3DS for two weeks. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than five times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold twice as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 67 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 33 percent market share. The 3DS has a 85 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Vita is up, and the 3DS, PSP and DS are down.
