Hardware sales have increased across the board week-on-week, except for the PSP which is down. Overall week on week hardware sales are up 20 percent. The 3DS continues to be the only platform up year on year, up six percent. Overall hardware sales are down 24 percent year on year.
Six games debuted in the top 30 this week. Farming Simulator 2013 (PC) is this week’s top debut, debuting at number one with sales of 405,634. Software milestones this week in the top 30: Pokémon Black / White Version 2 (DS) passed the five million mark; FIFA 13 (PS3) passed the four million mark; and Kinect Adventures! (X360) passed 17 million sold.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week on week are up across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are up 37,713 (17%) to 254,031 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 54,169 (30%) to 234,727 units sold. The Wii sold 63,698 units, which is up 14,310 (29%).
Handheld sales are up for the DS, 3DS and Vita, and down for the PSP. The 3DS sold 257,045 units, which is up 41,281 (19%) week on week. The PlayStation Vita is up 4,242 (11%) to 42,318 units sold. The DS is up 7,300 (23%) to 38,654 units sold. The PSP sold 32,879 units which is down 2,308 (-7%) compared to last week. Total week on week sales are up 156,707 (4%) to 923,352.
The 3DS continues be the only platform up year on year. The PlayStation 3 is down 34,619 (-12%), the Wii is down 141,515 (-69%), and the Xbox 360 is down 45,402 (-16%). The PSP is down 72,402 (-69%), the DS is down 59,173 (-60%) and the 3DS is up 13,889 (6%). Year on year sales are down 297,158 (-24%).
The gap between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox has decreased for a third straight week, though the PlayStation 3 still leads by 19,304 units. The PlayStation 3 has been the bestselling home console all year, however that could change in the next couple of weeks as the holiday period draws closer and due to the release of Halo 4 (X360). The PlayStation 3 has a 46 percent market share; the Xbox 360 has a 42 percent market share; and the Wii has a 12 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all three home consoles are up.
3DS hardware remains well above its rival, the PlayStation Vita, outselling it by more than 6 to 1. The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by more than 6 to 1. Vita sales have picked up slightly to increase the gap between it and its predecessor, the PSP, outselling it by 9,439. The DS has a 54 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 46 percent. The 3DS has an 86 percent market share for the next generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 14 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are up.
Worldwide Software
Six games debuted in the top 30 this week. Farming Simulator 2013 (PC) is this week’s top debut, debuting at number one with sales of 405,634. The game launched in Europe.
Medal of Honor: Warfighter (X360) debuted at number two with sales of 340,995. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number four with sales of 313,264. The PC version debuted at number 12 with sales of 90,259. The game launched worldwide.
Forza: Horizon (X360) debuted at number five with sales of 307,619. The game launched worldwide.
The Idolm@ster: Shiny Festa - Honey Sound / Funky Note / Groovy Tune (PSP) debuted at number nine with sales of 111,835. The game launched in Japan.
Football Manager 2013 (PC) debuted at number 21 with sales of 61,274. The game launched in Europe.
Zone of the Enders (PS3) debuted at number 28 with sales of 43,265. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Pokémon Black / White Version 2 (DS) is at number three with sales of 320,824. FIFA 13 (PS3) is at number six with sales of 152,033. Just Dance 4 (Wii) is at number seven with sales of 148,450. FIFA 13 (X360) is at number eight with sales of 114,912. Skylanders Giants (Wii) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 111,656.
Week on week software sales for home consoles are up across the board. The Xbox 360 sold the most games this week with sales of 2.99 million, an increase of 869,433 (41%). The PlayStation 3 sold 2.78 million games this week, an increase of 607,743 (28%). Wii software sales are up 360,611 (29%) to 1.61 million games sold.
Handheld software sales are up across the board. The DS sold 1.32 million games, an increase of 138,301 games (12%) week on week. The 3DS sold 706,862 games, which is down 200,583 (40%). PSP game sales are up 98,229 (34%) to 426,401 games sold. The Vita sold 173,286 games, an increase of 30,109 (21%). Total combined software is up 2.31 million units (30%) week on week to 10.01 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the 3DS, and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 1.97 million (-41%), the Wii is down 1.19 million units (-43%) and the Xbox 360 is down 2.31 million units (-44%). The DS is down 128,360 (-9%), the PSP is down 584,358 (-58%) and the 3DS is up 303,648 (75%). Total combined software is down 25.71 million units (-36%) games sold year on year.
The Xbox 360 has outsold the PlayStation 3 for the first time since the week ending September 22, and for the second time in the last 10 weeks. The PlayStation 3 has lead for eight of the last 10 weeks and the Xbox 360 for the other two weeks. The Xbox 360 has 41 percent market share, the PlayStation 3 with 37 percent, and the Wii with 22 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all three home consoles are up.
DS software after dropping last week, has rebounded slightly, though every handheld’s software sales have increased. The DS has a 76 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 24 percent market share. The 3DS has an 80 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 20 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the DS, PSP and Vita are up, while the 3DS down.
