This week was Black Friday in the US and the PlayStation 4 launched in Europe. The PlayStation 4 sold 673,354 units in its first week in Europe.
Overall, hardware sale this week increased by 74 percent. Week-on-week sales is up for every platform, except for the Xbox One. Overall year-on-year sales are up by 77 percent. The Xbox 360, 3DS, and PlayStation Vita are all up year-over-year.
No games debuted in the top 30 this week.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Call of Duty: Ghosts (X360) passed the five million mark; Grand Theft Auto V (X360) passed 12 million units sold; Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS4) passed the one million mark; Call of Duty: Ghosts (XOne) passed the one million mark; Batman: Arkham Origins (PS3) passed the one million mark; and Minecraft (X360) passed the two million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for every platform, except for the Xbox One. PlayStation 4 sales are up 827,693 (820%) to 927,449 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 400,150 (303%) to 532,227 units sold. PlayStation 3 sales are up 311,825 (149%) to 520,749 units sold. Xbox One sales are down 712,154 (-64%) to 405,911 units sold. The Wii U sold 241,104 units, an increase of 133,947 (125%). Wii sold 170,713 units, an increase of 85,595 (101%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up across the board. The 3DS sold 1.26 million units, which is up 689,530 (121%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita sold 152,702 units which is up 58,411 (62%) compared to last week. The PSP is up 11,014 (21%) to 62,943 units sold. The DS is up 42,765 (238%) to 60,746 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 1.85 million units (74%) to 4,332,350 units sold.
The Xbox 360, 3DS and Vita are all up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 1,010 (0%), the Wii is down 34,750 (-17%), the Xbox 360 is up 75,984 (17%), the Wii U is down 97,117 (-29%). The PSP is down 36,907 (-37%), the DS is down 50,802 (-46%), the Vita is up 35,103 (30%) and the 3DS is down 663,024 (111%). Year on year sales are up 1,886,886 units (77%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the Wii for six weeks, Wii U for three weeks, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for two weeks, and the PlayStation 4 for one week. The Xbox One has dropped for one week. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for 11 straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 43 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 43 percent market share; and the Wii has a 14 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 59 percent market share for the eighth generation, The Xbox One has a 26 percent market share and the Wii U has a 16 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, and Wii U are up.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the DS for six weeks, five weeks for the PSP, four weeks for the 3DS, and the Vita for one week. The Vita has outsold the PSP for eight straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 1,105,000 units, from 474,000 units last week.
The PSP has a 51 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has a 49 percent market share. The 3DS has an 89 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has an 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks all four handhelds are up.
Worldwide Software
No games debuted in the top 30 this week.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Call of Duty: Ghosts (X360) is at number one with sales of 609,841. Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS3) is at number two with sales of 529,328. Just Dance 2014 (Wii) is at number three with sales of 494,477. Grand Theft Auto V (X360) is at number four with sales of 417,507. Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) is at number five with sales of 401,983.
Pokémon X/Y (3DS) is at number six with sales of 399,483. FIFA Soccer 14 (P4) is at number seven with sales of 358,154. Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS4) is at number eight with sales of 357,096. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS) is at number nine with sales of 326,897. Super Mario 3D World (WiiU) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 325,392.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up for every platform, except for the Xbox One. The Xbox 360 sold 5.95 million games, an increase of 2.72 million units (84%). The PlayStation 4 sold 5.65 million games this week, an increase of 1.68 million units (382%). Wii software sales are up 1.27 million units (93%) to 2.64 million games sold. The PlayStation 4 sold 2.12 games, an increase of 1.68 million units (382%). The Wii U sold 1.23 million games, an increase of 388,054 (119%). The Xbox One sold 1.20 million games, a decrease 2.05 million units.
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up across the board. The 3DS sold 2.36 million games, which is up 628,411 units (36%). The DS sold 1.22 million games, an increase of 444,865 units (57%) week-on-week. The Vita sold 410,441 games, an increase of 106,473 (35%). PSP game sales are up 73,987 units (26%) to 359,808 games sold. Total combined software is up 7.19 million million units (45%) week-on-week to 23.14 million.
Year-on-year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PSP, 3DS, and Vita. The PlayStation 3 is up 454,468 units (9%), the Wii is down 667,153 units (-20%), the Xbox 360 is up 219,411 units (4%), and the Wii U is up 668,227 units (119%). The DS is down 399,676 units (-25%), the PSP is up 9,952 units (3%), the 3DS is up 917,175 units (63%), and the Vita is up 19,328 units (5%). Total combined software is up 4.54 million units (24%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii for seven weeks, the Wii U for three weeks, and the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox 360 for one week. The Xbox One has dropped for one week.
The Xbox 360 has a 42 percent market share for the seventh generation; the PlayStation 3 has a 40 percent market share; and the Wii has an 18 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 47 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Wii U has a 27 percent market share, and the Xbox One has a 26 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four home consoles are up.
DS software sales have increased for nine weeks, the 3DS for three weeks, and the PSP and Vita for one week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold nearly six times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold more than three times as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 77 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 23 percent market share. The 3DS has an 85 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are up.
