Overall, hardware sale this week increased by eight percent. Week-on-week sales are up for every platform, except for the Wii U and 3DS. Overall year-on-year sales are down 26 percent. The 3DS is the only platform to be up year-over-year. The DS has the biggest drop year-on-year by percent, at 78 percent
One game debuted in the top 30 this week, down from five last week. Call of Duty: Ghosts (X360) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 3,236,337. The PlayStation 3 debuted at number two with sales of 2,874,666. The PC version debuted at number nine with sales of 193,674. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Battlefield 4 (X360) passed the one million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360, and down for the Wii U. PlayStation 3 sales are up 31,793 (17%) to 220,084 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 31,795 (27%) to 171,310 units sold. The Wii U sold 66,594 units, a decrease of 9,841 (-13%). The Wii sold 50,549 units, an increase of 10,054 (25%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the DS, PSP and 3DS, and down for the Vita. The 3DS sold 408,351 units, which is up 3,547 (1%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita sold 71,176 units which is down 4,189 (-6%) compared to last week. The PSP is up 8,423 (22%) to 45,878 units sold. The DS is up 1,646 (16%) to 11,924 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 77,799 units (8%) to 1,045,866 units sold.
The 3DS is the only platform year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 104,209 (-32%), the Wii is down 47,202 (-48%), and the Xbox 360 is down 229,884 (-57%). The PSP is down 21,680 (-32%), the DS is down 41,378 (-78%), the Vita is down 1,247 (-2%) and the 3DS is up 20,940 (5%). Year on year sales are down 358,066 units (-26%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii for four weeks. The Wii U has decreased for one week. PlayStation 3 has led for 44 straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for eight straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 50 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 39 percent market share; and the Wii has an 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four platforms are up.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the DS for three weeks and two weeks for the PSP and one week for the 3DS. Sales have decreased for the Vita for one week. The Vita has outsold the PSP for five straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 337,000 units, from 329,000 units last week.
The PSP has a 79 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has a 21 percent market share. The 3DS has an 85 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks all four handhelds are up.
Worldwide Software

Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Battlefield 4 (PS3) is at number three with sales of 326,050. Battlefield 4 (X360) is at number four with sales of 313,967. Pokémon X/Y (3DS) is at number five with sales of 290,599.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (X360) is at number six with sales of 211,471. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 198,213. Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) is at number eight with sales of 198,213 units. Grand Theft Auto V (X360) is at number 10 with sales of 153,338 units.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360, and down for the Wii U. The Xbox 360 sold 5.81 million games, an increase of 2.13 million units (58%). The PlayStation 3 sold 5.68 million games this week, an increase of 1.96 million units (53%). Wii software sales are up 101,814 units (13%) to 945,653 games sold. The Wii U sold 333,585 games, a decrease of 70,965 (-18%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the DS, and PSP, and down for the 3DS and Vita. The 3DS sold 932,838 games, which is down 128,873 units (-12%). The DS sold 619,277 games, an increase of 79,911 units (15%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 220,746 games, an increase of 9,059 (4%). PlayStation Vita game sales are down 13,568 units (-6%) to 210,046 games sold. Total combined software is up 4.08 million units (38%) week-on-week to 14.75 million.
Year-on-year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, PSP and Vita. The PlayStation 3 is up 2.90 million units (104%), the Wii is down 400,171 units (-30%) and the Xbox 360 is down 454,084 units (-7%). The DS is down 257,407 units (-29%), the PSP is up 11,850 units (6%), the 3DS is down 362,118 units (-28%), and the Vita is up 28,288 units (16%). Total combined software is up 1.80 million units (14%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii for four weeks and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for three weeks. Wii U software sales have dropped for one week.
The Xbox 360 has a 47 percent market share, the PlayStation 3 has a 46 percent market share, and the Wii has an eight percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and Wii U are up.
DS software sales have increased for six weeks, and the PSP for one week. The Vita has decreased for one week and the 3DS for four weeks. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than four times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold more than twice as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 74 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 26 percent market share. The 3DS has an 82 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has an 18 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS, Vita, DS and PSP are up.
