The Xbox One launched this week in North America and Europe. The console had the second biggest opening in gaming history, only beaten out by the PlayStation 4. The Xbox One sold 1.19 million units in its opening week.
Overall, hardware sale this week increased by 14 percent. Week-on-week sales is up for every platform, except for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The PS4 is currently supply constrained. Overall year-on-year sales are down by 40 percent. However, this time last year was also Black Friday. Black Friday is a week later this year.
14 games debuted in the top 30 this week, up from 11 last week. Call of Duty: Ghosts (XOne) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 755,462. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS3) passed the four million mark; and Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) passed the 14 million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for every platform, except for the PlayStation 4. The Xbox One launched this week in North America and Europe with sales of 1,186,324. PlayStation 3 sales are up 25,224 (14%) to 201,920 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 10,291 (10%) to 116,724 units sold. The Wii U sold 111,046 units, an increase of 33,836 (44%). PlayStation 4 sales are down 978,013 (-91%) to 93,794 units sold. The Wii sold 85,118 units, an increase of 14,690 (21%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the 3DS, DS, PSP, and down for the Vita. The 3DS sold 490,812 units, which is up 69,607 (17%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita sold 93,549 units which is down 66,319 (-41%) compared to last week. The PSP is up 6,185 (14%) to 51,929 units sold. The DS is up 3,314 (23%) to 17,981 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 405,139 units (14%) to 2,449,197 units sold.
No platforms are up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 619,079 (-75%), the Wii is down 316,564 (-79%), the Xbox 360 is down 1,016,866 (-90%), the Wii U is down 361,053 (-76%). The PSP is down 56,351 (-52%), the DS is down 291,922 (-94%), the Vita is up 127,760 (-58%) and the 3DS is down 152,341 (-24%). Year on year sales are down 1,661,818 units (-40%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the Wii for five weeks, Wii U for two weeks, and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for week. The PlayStation 4 has dropped for one week. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for 10 straight weeks. The Xbox One was the top selling platform this week.
The PlayStation 3 has a 50 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 29 percent market share; and the Wii has a 21 percent market share. The Xbox One has an 85 percent market share for the eighth generation and the Wii U has an eight percent market share, and the PlayStation 4 has a seven percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago The Wii and Wii U are up, while the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the DS for five weeks, four weeks for the PSP, and three weeks for the 3DS, while the Vita has dropped for one week. The Vita has outsold the PSP for seven straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 397,000 units, from 261,000 units last week.
The PSP has a 74 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has a 26 percent market share. The 3DS has an 84 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 16 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks all four handhelds are up.
Worldwide Software

Forza Motorsport (XOne) launched at number six with sales of 423,317. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Super Mario 3D World (WiiU) debuted at number seven with sales of 381,330. The game launched in Japan and North America.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (XOne) launched at number eight with sales of 331,032. The game launched in North America and Europe.
FIFA Soccer 14 (XOne) launched at number nine with sales of 304,445. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) debuted at number 10 with sales of 285,679. The game launched in Japan.
Dead Rising 3 (XOne) debuted at number 11 with sales of 282,877. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Ryse: Son of Rome (XOne) debuted at number 12 with sales of 281,660. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Madden NFL 25 (XOne) launched at number 20 with sales of 107,560. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Need for Speed Rivals (XOne) debuted at number 25 with sales of 97,212. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number 26 with sales of 85,323. The game launched in North America and Europe.
NBA 2K14 (PS4) launched at number 27 with sales of 83,514. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Once Piece Unlimited World: Red (3DS) debuted at number 29 with sales of 81,775. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS3) is at number two with sales of 474,228. Call of Duty: Ghosts (X360) is at number four with sales of 443,024.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the Wii and Wii U, and down for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 3 sold 3.72 million games, a decrease of 61,073 units (-2%). The Xbox 360 sold 3.23 million games this week, a decrease of 17,692 units (-1%). Wii software sales are up 261,461 units (24%) to 1.36 million games sold. The Wii U sold 841,203 games, an increase of 473,796 (129%). The PlayStation 4 sold 439,503 games, a decrease of 2.15 million units (-83%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the DS and 3DS, and down for the PSP and Vita. The 3DS sold 1.74 million games, which is up 710,679 units (69%). The DS sold 774,434 games, an increase of 65,207 units (9%) week-on-week. The Vita sold 303,968 games, a decrease of 132,533 (-30%). PSP game sales are down 87,557 units (-23%) to 285,821 games sold. Total combined software is up 2.31 million million units (17%) week-on-week to 15.95 million.
Year-on-year software totals are up for the 3DS. The PlayStation 3 is down 2.34 million units (-39%), the Wii is down 2.28 million units (-63%), the Xbox 360 is down 3.97 million units (-55%), and the Wii U is down 381,228 units (-31%). The DS is down 853,027 units (-52%), the PSP is down 18,011 units (-6%), the 3DS is up 50,382 units (3%), and the Vita is down 142,846 units (-32%). Total combined software is down 6.25 million units (-28%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii for six weeks and the Wii U for two weeks. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have dropped for two weeks, and the PlayStation 4 for one week.
The PlayStation 3 has a 45 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 39 percent market share; and the Wii has a 16 percent market share. The Xbox One has a 72 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Wii U has a 19 percent market share, and the PlayStation 4 has a 10 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Wii and Wii U are up, and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are down.
DS software sales have increased for eight weeks, and the 3DS for two weeks. The PSP and Vita have decreased for one week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold nearly six times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold nearly three times as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 73 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 27 percent market share. The 3DS has an 85 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are up.

Yeah, Black Friday is later but before the Black Friday we had the two biggest worldwide openings for new consoles, and still overall year-on-year sales are still down. Consoles are definetely going niche
