Overall hardware sales increased by three percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are up for the PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, Wii U, PSP, and PlayStation Vita, and are down for the DS and 3DS. Overall year-on-year sales are down eight percent. The 3DS and the Vita are the two platforms up year-on-year. The DS has dropped by 75 percent year-on-year, the biggest by percent.
Eight games debuted in the top 30 this week. Gundom Breaker (PS3) debuted at number two with sales of 189,969. The game launched in Japan.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: The Last of Us (PS3) passed the two million mark and Assassin’s Creed III (PS3) passed the five million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are up across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are up 2,427 (2%) to 135,657 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 7,019 (8%) to 92,896 units sold. The Wii U sold 24,981 units, an increase of 2,846 (13%). The Wii sold 24,214 units, an increase of 432 (-9%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are up for the PSP and Vita, and down for the DS and 3DS. The 3DS sold 180,279 units, which is down 20,314 (-10%) week-on-week. The Vita is up 26,094 (78%) to 59,522 units sold. The PSP sold 51,429 units which is up 556 (1%) compared to last week. The DS is down 205 (-2%) to 10,893 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 18,855 units (3%) to 579,871 units sold.
The 3DS and Vita are both up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 16,959 (-11%), the Wii is down 27,390 (-53%), and the Xbox 360 is down 22,071 (-19%). The PSP is down 5,364 (-9%), the DS is down 32,419 (-75%), the Vita is up 236 (-0%) and the 3DS is up 28,085 (18%). Year on year sales are down 50,901 units (-8%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the Xbox 360 for three weeks, and one week for the PlayStation 3, Wii and 3DS. The PlayStation 3 has led for the last 26 weeks. Wii and Wii U sales have been nearly identical for the last 12 weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for the first time since the week ending May 4.
The PlayStation 3 has a 54 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 37 percent market share; and the Wii has a nine percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Xbox 360 is down, while the PlayStation 3, Wii and Wii U are down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the Vita for three straight weeks and for the PSP for two weeks. The 3DS has decreased for two weeks and the DS for four weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased this week to 121,000 units this week, down from 167,000 units last week.
The PSP has an 83 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has a 17 percent market share. The 3DS has a 75 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 25 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS and Vita are up, while the DS and PSP are down.
Worldwide Software
Eight games debuted in the top 30 this week. Gundom Breaker (PS3) debuted at number two with sales of 189,969. The game launched in Japan.
Toukiden (PSV) debuted at number four with sales of 124,274. The PSP version debuted at number six with sales of 67,728. The game launched in Japan.
Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl (3DS) debuted at number five with sales of 90,297. The game launched in Japan.
Atelier Escha andamp; Logy (PS3) debuted at number nine with sales of 57,712. The game launched in Japan.
Deadpool (X360) debuted at number 11 with sales of 50,366. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number 12 with sales of 49,336. The game launched in Europe and North America.
Company of Heroes 2 (PC) debuted at number 16 with sales of 37,611. The game launched in North America.
Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode (3DS) debuted at number 18 with sales of 35,265. The game launched in Japan.
Date A Live: Rine Utopia (PS3) debuted at number 27 with sales of 24,105. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: The Last of Us (PS3) is at the top of the charts with sales of 354,861. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is at number three with sales of 159,888. Project X Zone (3DS) is at number seven with sales of 65,824. Minecraft (X360) is at number eight with sales of 65,707. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 56,534.
Software home console sales week-on-week are up for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U, and down for the Wii. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 1.80 million units, an increase of 132,404 units (8%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.03 million games this week, a increase of 34,016 units (3%). Wii software sales are down 14,445 units (-3%) to 431,754 games sold. The Wii U sold 99,041 games, an increase of 13,911 (16%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week are down up for the 3DS, PSP and Vita, and down for the DS. The 3DS sold 752,158 games, which is up 46,521 units (7%). The DS sold 282,391 games, a decrease of 4,423 units (-2%) week-on-week. The Vita sold 218,115 games, an increase of 114,707 (111%). PSP game sales are up 75,837 units (55%) to 212,909 games sold. Total combined software is up 398,528 units (9%) week-on-week to 4.83 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, PSP, Vita, and 3DS, and down for the Wii, Xbox 360, and DS. The PlayStation 3 is up 304,458 units (8%), the Wii is down 361,805 units (-46%) and the Xbox 360 is down 296,036 units (-22%). The DS is down 606,721 units (-68%), the PSP is up 23,747 units (13%), the 3DS is up 405,730 units (117%), and the Vita is up 114,707 units (56%). Total combined software is down 353,130 units (-7%) games sold year on year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii U for two weeks and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for one week. The Wii has dropped for one week.
The PlayStation 3 has a 55 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 32 percent market share, and the Wii has a 13 percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago all four home console software sales are up for the PlayStation 3, and down for the Xbox 360, Wii and Wii U.
The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the 27th straight week and shows no sign of giving up the top spot. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than three times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold 33 percent more games than the PSP.
The DS has a 57 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 43 percent market share. The 3DS has a 78 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 22 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PSP and Vita are up, while the 3DS and DS are down.
