Overall hardware sales increased by 36 percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, 3DS, and Vita. Overall year-on-year sales are up slightly. The 3DS is up 84 percent year-on-year and the PlayStation 3 is up three percent. The DS has dropped by 74 percent year-on-year, the biggest by percent.
Two games debuted in the top 30 this week. The Last of Us (PS3) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 1.17 million units. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) passed the two million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. PlayStation 3 sales are up 25,439 (21%) to 146,813 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 577 (1%) to 79,854 units sold. The Wii sold 26,070 units, a decrease of 2,085 (-7%). The Wii U sold 23,103 units, a decrease of 909 (-4%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are up for the 3DS and Vita, and down for the DS and PSP. The 3DS sold 264,483 units, which is up 140,790 (114%) week-on-week. The PSP is down 742 (-1%) to 50,038 units sold. The Vita sold 33,095 units which is up 5,083 (18%) compared to last week. The DS is down 1,305 (-9%) to 12,863 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 166,848 units (36%) to 636,319 units sold.
The 3DS and PlayStation 3 are up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is up 4,212 (3%), the Wii is down 28,623 (-52%), and the Xbox 360 is down 34,937 (-30%). The PSP is down 3,459 (-6%), the DS is down 36,519 (-74%), the Vita is down 42,963 (-56%) and the 3DS is up 120,589 (84%). Year on year sales are up 1,403 units (0%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 one week and decreased for three weeks for the Wii U and four weeks for the Wii. The PlayStation 3 has led for the last 25 weeks. Wii and Wii U sales have been nearly identical for the last n10 weeks. The Wii has outsold the Wii U for the last six weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 58 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 32 percent market share; and the Wii has a 10 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all for home consoles are down.
Handheld hardware sales have shot up for the 3DS this week and increased modestly for the Vita. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 231,000 units this week, up from 95,000 units last week.
The PSP has a 80 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has a 20 percent market share. The 3DS has an 89 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has an 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS is up, while the Vita, PSP and Vita are down.
Worldwide Software
Two games debuted in the top 30 this week. The Last of Us (PS3) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 1.17 million units. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Chousoku Henkei Gyrozetter: Albatross no Tsubasa (3DS) debuted at number 27 with sales of 18,272 units. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is at number two with sales of 566,679 units. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS) is at number three with sales of 144,822. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) is at number four with sales of 59,724. Minecraft (X360) is at number five with sales of 55,471.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II (X360) is at number six with sales of 49,040. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 42,828. Tomodachi Collection: Shin Seikatsu (3DS) is at number eight with sales of 41,529. New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) is at number nine with sales of 29,515. Just Dance 4 (Wii) is at number 10 with sales of 24,791.
Software home console sales week-on-week are up for the PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 2.30 million units, an increase of 1.02 million units (79%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.06 million games this week, a decrease of 217,874 units (-17%). Wii software sales are down 73,584 units (-15%) to 420,112 games sold. The Wii U sold 83,913 games, a decrease of 8,173 (-9%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week are up for the 3DS. The 3DS sold 1.10 million games, which is up 653,126 units (145%). The DS sold 289,781 games, a decrease of 113,812 units (-28%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 124,724 games, a decrease of 4,630 (-4%). Vita game sales are down 3,004 units (-4%) to 75,014 games sold. Total combined software is up 1.25 million units (30%) week-on-week to 5.46 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is up 973,183 units (73%), the Wii is down 290,773 units (-41%) and the Xbox 360 is down 187,625 units (-15%). The DS is down 115,649 units (-29%), the PSP is down 86,032 units (-29%), the 3DS is down 2.23 million units (-67%), and the Vita is down 230,314 units (-75%). Total combined software is down 2.09 million units (-28%) games sold year on year.
Home console software sales have increased for the PlayStation 3 for one week, and decreased for the Xbox 360 for one week, the Wii for two weeks and the Wii U for three weeks.
The Xbox 360 has a 61 percent market share, the PlayStation 3 has a 28 percent market share, and the Wii has a 11 percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3 software sales are up.
The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the 26th straight week. Also 3DS sales jumped up this week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than 14 times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold more than two times as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 70 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 30 percent market share. The 3DS has an 94 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a six percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS is up, while the Wii, PSP and Vita are down.

I'm sorry, but these Weekly sales analysis need to be proofread before being posted. The 3DS hardware percentage is highlighted red despite being growth. And 3 million software sales last year? Come on.
3DS is up 84% from the same week last year, and it;s so amazing that it had to stay blood red to represent villagers new violent side in smash bros.
