FIFA 12 Cover Stars Revealed - News

by Joseph Trotter , posted on 29 July 2011 / 8,107 Views

This year's FIFA cover stars (in the UK, Scandanavia, Ireland and Middle-East; a fine mix) have been revealed as . . .

Wayne Rooney and Jack Wilshere. Hmm.

Ever-so-slightly underwhelming really. Rooney, although a genuine world soccer star, has had some extremely questionable press this year (prostitute related questionable press, like any good sports star) and would likely have been booted if it wasn't for his massive contract with EA. Stranger still, it was revealed that he recently had a hair transplant, and the picture that FIFA have chosen is somewhat lacking extra strands. So, not only have EA stuck with a morally disreputable sportsman but he won't even look like that upon release.

As for Jack Wilshere, Arsenal's young dynamo, he is a good young player, but a FIFA cover star? Not yet. The space is normally reserved for world-superstars, like previous  faces Kaka and Ronaldinho, not a player who has just completed his first season for a dramatically under-achieving side. They might have put there on the basis that he will become a star turn, but if this is the case then it is surprisingly short-sighted. Considering EA's recent agreement with Manchester City, it is surprising that one of their men is not adorning the frontage, especially after their signing yesterday of another genuine world star, the Argentine striker Sergio Aguero.

For all that, does it really matter who is on the cover? It is unlikely that a Chelsea fan will not buy the game because it does not feature fat Frank Lampard on the cover. Hell, if that was the case, my dream of Leicester's Richie Wellens on the cover would leave me FIFA-less for many years.

People seem to forget that C. Ronaldo and Messi are PES and not FIFA

Rooney ok, but as someone said, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldo or some star of that kind shouldve been there instead of Wilshere, who may be a great player but at least most people will look at him and wonder who he is.

Rooney is the face of FIFA, and should continue to be as long as he remains one of the top players in the world :D

I seem to remember Theo Walcott was on the cover a few years ago, he isn't exactly a world renown superstar either. Beside, Wilshere has made a name for himself in the UK. Surprised he is on the cover elsewhere though.
