This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Wii.
The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the Nintendo Wii launched in November 2006. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Nintendo Wii by 5.90 million units. The Nintendo Wii is ahead of the PlayStation 5 by 2.98 million units.
The PlayStation 5 has sold 92.34 million units in 67 months, while the Nintendo Wii sold 95.32 million units. Month 67 for the PlayStation 5 is May 2026 and for the Nintendo Wii it is May 2012.
The Nintendo Wii crossed 100 million in month 85. The Nintendo Wii sold 101.63 million units lifetime. The PS5 is 9.29 million units behind lifetime Wii sales.

Yes, but the narrative for years has been that the Wii was a fad and its sales in its later years fell off a cliff. So saying it was outselling the Wii (a year after the Wii U was announced) isn't exactly a big point in its favor.
The Wii had more competition with PS3 and 360 both pulling its family audience away through Move and Kinect. Let's also not forget that Wii didn't even output HD and 2010-2011 were the years HDTV's became the majority in the USA.
