Overview
Overall hardware sales increased by 38 percent week-on-week, due to the release of Monster Hunter 4 (3DS). Week-on-week sales is up for the 3DS, and down for everything else. Overall year-on-year sales are up 13 percent. The 3DS is the only platform to be up year-over-year. The DS has the biggest drop year-on-year by percent, at 78 percent
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week, which is down from four last week. Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 1.78 million units. The game launched in Japan.
There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is down across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are down 10,845 (-9%) to 116,607 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 2,231 (-3%) to 76,532 units sold. The Wii U sold 20,946 units, a decrease of 2,672 (-11%). The Wii sold 20,044 units, a decrease of 674 (-3%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the 3DS, and down for the PSP, DS, and Vita. The 3DS sold 370,893 units, which is up 206,839 (126%) week-on-week. The PSP is down 2,307 (-7%) to 31,538 units sold. The PlayStation Vita sold 29,156 units which is down 2,942 (-9%) compared to last week. The DS is down 217 (-3%) to 7,120 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 184,951 units (38%) to 670,605 units sold.
The 3DS is the only platform to be up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 10,845 (-15%), the Wii is down 22,153 (-52%), and the Xbox 360 is down 40,817 (-35%). The PSP is down 16,112 (-34%), the DS is down 25,472 (-78%), the Vita is down 6,579 (-18%) and the 3DS is up 189,236 (104%). Year on year sales are up 79,177 units (13%).
Home console hardware sales decreased for the Xbox 360 and Wii for one week, two weeks for the PlayStation 3, and four weeks for the Wii. The PlayStation 3 has led for 36 straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for 10 straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 55 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 35 percent market share; and the Wii has a 10 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are up, while the Wii and Wii U are down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the 3DS for three weeks. The DS has decreased for three weeks and the PSP and Vita for four weeks. The PSP has outsold the Vita for 11 straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 342,000 units, from 132,000 units last week.
The PSP has an 82 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has an 18 percent market share. The 3DS has a 93 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a seven percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the 3DS is up, while the PSP, DS, and Vita are down.
Worldwide Software
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week, which is down from four last week. Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 1.78 million units. The game launched in Japan.
NHL 14 (X360) debuted at number four with sales of 71,874/ The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number nine with sales of 57,751. The game launched in North America and Europe.
AKB1/149: Love Election (PS3) debuted at number 20 with sales of 24,308. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX (PS3) is at number two with sales of 290,061. Madden NFL 25 (X360) is at number three with sales of 85,319. Saints Row IV (X360) is at number five with sales of 67,449.
Minecraft (X360) is at number six with sales of 66,683. Madden NFL 25 (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 61,776. Diablo III (PS3) is at number eight with sales of 59,508. Diablo III (X360) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 51,019.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the PlayStation 3, and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 sold 1.46 million games this week, an increase of 34,773 units (2%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.03 million games, a decrease of 243,917 units (-19%). Wii software sales are down 24,612 units (-7%) to 346,143 games sold. The Wii U sold 124,246 games, a decrease of 24,843 (-17%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the 3DS, and down for the DS, PSP, and Vita. The 3DS sold 2.09 million games, which is up 1.75 million units (516%). The DS sold 226,662 games, a decrease of 1,226 units (-1%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 128,623 games, a decrease of 51,040 (-28%). PlayStation Vita game sales are down 12,396 units (-11%) to 103,847 games sold. Total combined software is up 1.43 million units (45%) week-on-week to 5.51 million.
Year-on-year software totals is up for the PlayStation 3, 3DS, and Vita, and down for the Wii, Xbox 360, DS, and PDP. The PlayStation 3 is up 205,146 units (16%), the Wii is down 157.700 units (-31%) and the Xbox 360 is down 28,237 units (-3%). The DS is down 63,262 units (-22%), the PSP is down 26,251 units (-17%), the 3DS is up 1.54 million units (276%), and the Vita is up 31,155 units (43%). Total combined software is up 1.62 million units (42%) games sold year-on-year.

The PlayStation 3 has a 51 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 37 percent market share, and the Wii has a 12 percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3 is up, and the Xbox 360, Wii, and Wii U are down.
3DS software sales have jumped up this week, increasing fivefold. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold 20 times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold 43 percent more games as the PSP.
The DS has a 64 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 36 percent market share. The 3DS has a 95 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a five percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS is up, and the PSP, DS, and Vita are down.
