Overview
Overall hardware sales decrease by 18 percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are down across the board. Overall year-on-year sales are down 40 percent. Also no platforms are up year-on-year. The PSP has dropped by 77 percent, the biggest by percent, while the PlayStation 3 and 3DS have the smallest drop at 32 percent.
One game debuted in the top 30 this week. DEFIANCE (X360) debuted at number three with sales of 173,399 units. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number eight with sales of 65,174. The PC version debuted at number 10 with sales of 53,551.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) passed the one million mark; Gears of War: Judgment (X360) passed the one million mark; and Call of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3) passed the 10 million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are down across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are down 17,812 (14%) to 113,669 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 7,870 (-9%) to 82,010 units sold. The Wii U sold 46,818 units, a decrease of 21,684 (-32%). The Wii sold 21,233 units, a decrease of 4,210 (-17%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are down across the board. The 3DS sold 121,215 units, which is down 19,526 (-14%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita is down 18,170 (-34%) to 35,113 units sold. The DS sold 20,203 units which is down 2,793 (-12%) compared to last week. The PSP is down 6,364 (-28%) to 16,327 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 98,429 units (-18%) to 456,588 units sold.
No platforms are up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 52,751 (-32%), the Wii is down 59,469 (-74%), and the Xbox 360 is down 70,217 (-46%). The PSP is down 53,163 (-77%), the DS is down 32,383 (-62%), the Vita is down 20,551 (-37%) and the 3DS is down 56,578 (-32%). Year on year sales are down 298,294 units (-40%).
Home console hardware sales have decreased for all platforms for one week. This is after one or two weeks of increases. The PlayStation 3 has led for the last 15 weeks. The Wii U has outsold its predecessor, the Wii, for six straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 52 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 38 percent market share; and the Wii has a 10 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Wii U is up, while the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 are down.
Handheld hardware sales have decreased for one week for the 3DS, DS and PSP, and decreased for two straight weeks for the Vita. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased slightly to 86,000 units this week, down from 87,000 units last week.
The DS has a 55 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds and the PSP with450 percent. The 3DS has a 78 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 22 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Vita us up, while the 3DS, DS and PSP are down.
Worldwide Software
One game debuted in the top 30 this week. DEFIANCE (X360) debuted at number three with sales of 173,399 units. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number eight with sales of 65,174. The PC version debuted at number 10 with sales of 53,551. The game launched in Europe and North America.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) is at the top of the charts with sales of 278,880. BioShock Infinite (X360) is at number two with sales of 176,178. Gears of War: Judgment (X360) is at number five with sales of 88,471.
Tomb Raider (2013) (PS3) is at number six with sales of 72,163. Tomb Raider (2013) (X360) is at number seven with sales of 66,020. God of War: Ascension (PS3) is at number nine with sales of 54,428.
Software home console sales week-on-week are down across the board. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 1.75 million, a decrease of 531,070 units (-23%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.72 million games this week, a decrease of 650,843 units (-27%). Wii software sales are down 84,200 units (-12%) to 627,903 games sold. The Wii U sold 176,870 games, a decrease of 133,594 (-43%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week are down across the board. The 3DS sold 781,661 games, which is down 429,364 units (-35%). The DS sold 428,256 games, a decrease of 52,082 units (-11%) week-on-week. PSP game sales are down 141,802 units (-46%) to 166,869 games sold. The Vita sold 148,949 games, a decrease of 89,993 (-38%). Total combined software is down 2.11 million games units (-27%) week-on-week to 5.80 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the 3DS and PlayStation Vita, and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 98,021 units (-5%), the Wii is down 738,900 units (-54%) and the Xbox 360 is down 514,325 units (-23%). The DS is down 260,059 units (-38%), the PSP is down 356,372 units (-68%), the 3DS is up 276,002 units (55%), and the Vita is up 42,125 units (39%). Total combined software is down 1.47 million units (-20%) games sold year on year.
Home console software sales have decreased for all four platforms for one week. This is after one or two weeks of increases. The PlayStation has led for one week and seven of the last 10 weeks. The Xbox 360 led for the other three weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 43 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 42 percent market share, and the Wii has a 15 percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago The PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U are up, while the Wii is down.
The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the 16th straight week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than five times as many games as the Vita. The DS nearly sold three times more games than the PSP.
The DS has a 72 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 28 percent market share. The 3DS has an 84 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 14 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds sold more games.
