Report: Xbox's New Mythic Achievement is Like PlayStation's Platinum Trophy

Report: Xbox's New Mythic Achievement is Like PlayStation's Platinum Trophy - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 23 September 2026 / 3,060 Views

Xbox is reportedly updating its achievement system with a new Mythic achievement that will be equivalent to PlayStation's platinum trophy.

This is according to a source that spoke with True Achievements. A player will be awarded a Mythic achievement when they unlock all achievements in a base game of a title. Achievements from title updates and DLC packs will not impact unlocking the Mythic achievement. They are worth zero Gamerscore.

Klobrille in a post on social media says an update for the Xbox PC app has revealed the Mythic achievement. This includes the symbol and unlock sound.

Here are details on Mythic achievements:

  • A Mythic achievement is awarded when a player unlocks all achievements in a game's base list
  • Achievements from title updates and DLC packs will not impact Mythic achievements
  • Mythic achievements are retroactive and will apply to all games with achievements
  • Mythic achievements are worth 0 Gamerscore
  • There is a new system notification, sound, animation, and icon for Mythic achievements
  • Game art will be decorated in achievement list view of the Gaming tab for each Mythic achievement unlocked
  • A total count of Mythic achievements will display on your profile for all to see

I still don't understand why Nintendo refuses to make an achievement system.

They're pointless and extra work, devs usually hate them. Esp on PlayStation. My friend explained it to me a few years ago. Kinda forgot the details. Xbox it's easy to put them in but not PlayStation. Something how they are coded on a system level and doing double the work for no extra pay with Sony's system. Tbh I think it's time to retire them. They serve no real purpose.

Again, your friend probably does not know what he is talking about. Implementing achievements can't be that hard when people do it for free for old roms on retro arch.

He's literally a developer/programmer who worked on all 3 platforms with R*/MLB games and indie but ok. Fans going back for fun on old games is not the same thing.

AI compare achievement implementation of previous game and implement these achievements. Today not really that hard

It's not hard, but as someone who spent months of hid life time testing all achievements on all platforms again and again (Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and GOG), I can assure you it's a waste of time & resources.

How much work can it be? Its literally just a checkpoint at certain points in the game. Plus it encourages people to 100% their games.

I am a dev too and its the same on every platform. And no its not harder on ps. It really is not.

I do, Nintendo see Achievements as a chore and can ruin the experience.

  • +3

How does that even make sense?

  • +1

Not really hard to understand

A notification popping up in the corner of the screen when I finish a mission is ruining my experience? Ok, buddy.

  • +1

Achievements can create Chores for the player.

Bro, just ignore them. The average playstation player doesn't even know what trophies they have. lol

  • 0

They’ll add them as soon as they figure out a way to monetize them.

  • +3

Nintendo won't implement one because they don't want to admit that something they didn't come up with is a good idea.

They didn't invent the D-Pad. Shoulder buttons. Analog. Motion controls. Switch idea or touch screens.

Zero logic in this post.

  • 0

"not invented here" syndrome is a near universal issue with japanese corporations.

They didn't seem to mind copying charging people for online like PS and Xbox. lol

  • +1

Would easily increase some players playtime

What an out-of-character name, but cool, I guess. I don't really care much either way if games have something like this, but I'm sure more people will appreciate this than find this a bad development.

Steam is the only achievement system I care about. That and inside individual battle.net games like WoW and Starcraft 2.
