Weekly Sales Analysis, 2 March - Vita Price Cut in Japan

Overall hardware sales increased by seven percent week-on-week. This was due to the increase in sales of the PlayStation Vita, because it received a price cut in Japan. Week-on-week sales are up for PlayStation Vita and PSP. Year-on-year sales are down 43 percent. Also no platforms are up year-on-year.
Eight games debuted in the top 30 this week. Dynasty Warriors 8 (PS3) debuted at the top of the chart with sales of 212,798 units. The game was released in Japan.
There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware

Hardware home console sales week-on-week are down across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are down 1,554 (-1%) to 128,482 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 9,329 (-10%) to 83,500 units sold. The Wii U sold 27,978 units, a decrease of 2,761 (-9%). The Wii sold 18,855 units, a decrease of 4,797 (-20%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are up for the PSP and Vita, and down for the DS, and 3DS. The 3DS sold 132,502 units, which is down 3,781 (-3%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita is up 53,849 (191%) to 82,114 units sold. The PSP sold 21,793 units which is up 3,175 (17%) compared to last week. The DS is down 2,497 (-12%) to 18,214 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 32,305 units (7%) to 513,438 units.
No platforms are up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 112,865 (-47%), the Wii is down 74,799 (-80%), and the Xbox 360 is down 56,885 (-41%). The PSP is down 54,118 (-71%), the DS is down 32,970 (-64%), the Vita is down 48,854 (-37%) and the 3DS is down 37,450 (-22%). Year on year sales are down 389,963 units (-43%).

Home console hardware sales have decreased for the Xbox 360 for one week, while PlayStation 3, Wii, and Wii U sales have decreased for two weeks. The PlayStation 3 has led for the last 10 weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 56 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 36 percent market share; and the Wii has an eight percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four home consoles are down.

Handheld hardware sales have increased for two weeks for the PlayStation Vita and one week for the PSP. Sales have decreased for three weeks for the 3DS and one week for the DS. The price cut for the PlayStation Vita in Japan has helped bump worldwide sales by nearly three times. The 3DS still outsold it by 50,000 units.
The PSP has a 54 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds and the PSP with 46 percent. The 3DS has a 62 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 38 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
Worldwide Software
Eight games debuted in the top 30 this week. Dynasty Warriors 8 (PS3) debuted at the top of the chart with sales of 212,798 units. The game was released in Japan.
Professor Layton and the Legacy of Civilization A (3DS) debuted at number two with sales of 132,824 units. The game was released in Japan.
Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus: Shoujotachi no Shoumei (PSV) debuted at number five with sales of 91,668. The game was released in Japan.
Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission (3DS) debuted at number six with sales of 89,926. The game was released in Japan.
Shining Ark (PSP) debuted at number nine with sales of 65,748. The game was released in Japan.
Macross 30: Ginga o Tsunagu Utagoe (PS3) debuted at number 12 with sales of 60,876. The game was released in Japan.
Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSV) debuted at number 13 with sales of 56,208. The game was released in Japan.
Touch Detective: Nameko Shigeru (3DS) debuted at number 25 with sales of 26,441. The game was released in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PS3) is at number three with sales of 131,289 units. Crysis 3 (X360) is at number four with sales of 108,330 units.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is at number seven with sales of 76,089. Crysis 3 (PS3) is at number eight with sales of 68,163 units. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 65,401 units.

Software home console sales week-on-week are down across the board. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 1.58 million, a decrease of 508,821 units (-24%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.19 million games this week, a decrease of 538,663 units (-31%). Wii software sales are down 68,682 units (-11%) to 585,281 games sold. The Wii U sold 76,076 games, a decrease of 7,038 (-8%).
Handheld software sales are up for the PSP, Vita and 3DS and down for the DS. The 3DS sold 738,250 games, which is up 174,468 units (31%). The DS sold 349,626 games, a decrease of 35,287 units (-9%) week-on-week. The Vita sold 256,674 games, an increase of 152,888 (147%). PSP game sales are up 62,754 units (43%) to 210,081 games sold. Total combined software is down 768,381 units (-13%) week-on-week to 4.99 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the 3DS and Vita, and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 800,622 units (-34%), the Wii is down 613,799 units (-51%) and the Xbox 360 is down 412,306 units (-26%). The DS is down 208,861 units (-37%), the PSP is down 56,255 units (-21%), the 3DS is up 247,363 units (50%), and the Vita is up 45,198 units (21%). Total combined software is down 1.72 million units (-26%) games sold year on year.

Home console software sales have decreased for one week for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and two weeks for the Wii and Wii U. The PlayStation 3 has led for two straight weeks and six of the last 10 weeks. The Xbox 360 led for the other four week
The PlayStation 3 has a 47 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with 35 percent, and the Wii with 18 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all four home consoles are down.

The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the eleventh straight week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS outsold the Vita by nearly three times and the DS outsold the PSP by 66 percent.
The DS has a 62 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 38 percent market share. The 3DS has a 74 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 26 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
