The holiday draws nearer as hardware sales for the home consoles increases, though handheld sales drop due to the lack of any major releases. Overall week on week hardware sales are up three percent. The 3DS continues to be the only platform up year on year. Overall hardware sales are down 18 percent year on year.
Five games debuted in the top 30 this week. Resident Evil 6 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is this week’s top debut. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at the top with sales of 1,440,902. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number two with sales of 946,144. Software milestones this week in the top 30: FIFA 13 (PS3) passed three million sold; and FIFA 13 (X360) passed two million sold.
Worldwide Hardware

Hardware sales week on week are up for the home consoles. PlayStation 3 sales are up the most this week, up 40,009 (19%) to 246,225 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 9,897 (7%) to 155,110 units sold. The Wii sold 40,295 units, which is up 2,085 (5%).
Handheld sales are down week on week. The 3DS sold 205,602 units, which is down 12,536 (-6%) week on week. The PlayStation Vita is down 9,345 (-19%) to 39,515 units sold. The PSP sold 37,154 units which is down 10,327 (-22%) compared to last week. The DS is down 1,061 (-5%) to 20,396 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 18,722 (3%) to 744,297.
The 3DS continues be the only platform up year on year. The PlayStation 3 is down 5,849 (-2%), the Wii is down 89,117 (-69%), and the Xbox 360 is down 33,813 (-18%). The PSP is down 56,144 (-60%) the DS is down 52,238 (-72%) and the 3DS is up 31,643 (18%). Year on year sales are down 166,003 (-18%).

The PlayStation 3 has grown its lead for a second straight week, as its sales have doubled. PlayStation 3 sales have increased for two weeks, the Xbox 360 for three weeks, and the Wii for two weeks. The PlayStation 3 has been the bestselling home console all year. The PlayStation 3 has a 56 percent market share; the Xbox 360 has a 35 percent market share; and the Wii has a nine percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are up, while the Wii is down.

3DS hardware remains well above its rival, the PlayStation Vita, outselling it by more than 5 to 1. The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by more than 10 to 1, while the Vita barely outsold its predecessor, the PSP. The PSP has a 65 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the DS has a 35 percent. The 3DS has an 84 percent market share for the next generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 16 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Vita and PSP are up, while the 3DS and DS are down.
Worldwide Software
Five games debuted in the top 30 this week. Resident Evil 6 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is this week’s top debut. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at the top with sales of 1,440,902. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number two with sales of 946,144. The game launched worldwide.
NBA 2K13 (X360) debuted at number five with sales of 363,576. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number six with sales of 315,881. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Just Dance 4 (Wii) debuted at number 13 with sales of 60,413. The game launched in Europe.
Summon Night 3 (PSP) debuted at number 15 with sales of 47,520. The game launched in Japan.
Sol Trigger (PSP) debuted at number 18 with sales of 40,845. The game launched in Japan.
Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include FIFA 13 (PS3) at number three with sales of 725,639. FIFA (X360) is at number four with sales of 538,128.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 258,812. Borderlands 2 (X360) is at number eight with sales of 157,096. World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria (PC) is at number nine with sales of 139,701. New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 101,924.

Week on week software totals are flat for the Wii and DS, and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 4.11 million, a decrease of 156,735 (-4%). Xbox 360 sold 3.15 million games this week, a decrease of 387,005 (-11%). Wii software sales are up 91 (0%) to 808,966.
The DS sold 502,533 games, a decrease of 1,562 (0%) week on week. The 3DS sold 417,847 games, which is down 86,128 (-17%). PSP game sales are down 127,574 (-28%) to 328,347 games sold. The Vita sold 164,055 games, a decrease of 23,537 (-13%). Total combined software is down 782,450 million (-8%) week on week to 9.49 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and 3DS, and down for the Wii, PSP and DS. The PlayStation 3 is up 1.01 million (33%), the Wii is down 484,758 (-37%) and the Xbox 360 is up 618,692 (24%). The DS is down 292,610 (-37%), the PSP is up 233,383 (-42%) and the 3DS is up 203,544 (95%). Total combined software is up 989,431 units (12%) games sold year on year.

The PlayStation 3 has increased its lead over the other consoles and has led nine of the 10 weeks. The Xbox 260 led for that one week. The PlayStation 3 has a 51 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with 39 percent, and the Wii with 10 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 software sales are up considerably, while the Wii is down.

The DS sold more software this week than the 3DS for the third straight week. The DS has a 60 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 40 percent market share. The 3DS has a 728percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 27 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PSP and Vita are up, while the 3DS and DS are down.
