Skyrim Sales Exceed 3.4 Million Units in Two Days - News

by Miles Taven , posted on 14 November 2011 / 92,280 Views

2011 is fast becoming the year games debuted at incredible numbers, as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sells over 3.4 million copies at retail (not including digital sales) in its first 2 days on sale.

Up over 600% on Oblivion's modest 490k staggered opening across PS3 and X360, Skyrim will manage to outsell Oblivion as a whole in a matter of weeks. 59% of units were sold on the X360 (over 2 million copies) and 27% on the PS3, with 14% on PC.

2.5 million of the total sold in Americas, with the remaining 950,000 units in EMEAA.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has managed to beat out Gears of War 3 and Fifa Soccer 12 for first week sales, and is on par with Battlfield 3, but with only 2 days sales it's selling at a faster rate. Only Modern Warfare 3 will be ahead of Skyrim, which, for an RPG, is incredible.

People are going nuts for this game. Almost all my friends have a copy, and when I go on XBL more then half of my friends are playing it.

GOTY, although I prefer Gears/Forza/Uncharted 3/Catherine.

wow indeed!..my GOTY so far (only Zelda SS now has a chance to dethrone it, but I doubt it)

RPG sales done right. Still wish EMEAA could match U.S. sales, but excellent debut nonetheless.

Yeah it's sad... Here in Europe most people only buy MW3 and FIFA! But in my city at least (population of 25.000 people) there was a line at the local Gamestop with at least 35 people, the day the game came out (I myself bought it over the internet). So i don't really understand the sales when you compare it to the excitement in the small city I live in, the game is amazing and every man or woman should try it out.

I must say one thing : me, my 2 brothers and my 2 friends (I know I have not a lot of friends) all bought Skyrim week 1, something no game ever achieved in my life as a gamer, not even CoD or GTA... Game sales of Skyrim will be amazing, maybe beating FF7's 9.72M in the end. One strange thing to note : the game was out of stock in France day one on 360 and we all had to buy it on PS3 or PC. That's weird because PS3 is clearly the strongest console in France and no game ever sold more on 360 than on PS3... supply issue on 360 ?

usrevenge OneTwoThree (on 15 November 2011)

well, zelda won't be as good either, makes sense. face it ocarina of time was the first good open world game of the sort but elder scrolls takes that to so much further that it deserves every sale and then some.

It is such a good game, I'm so happy to see as many people are enjoying it as much as I am. I can only handle shooter after shooter for so long before I want to shoot myself. This game couldn't have come at a better time.

Pretty sure that the PC sales are at least twice as much digital is its retail so could be over 4 million already.

Incredible sales for an rpg? I miss the good old days when this industry wasn't just given sequel after sequel that are essentially the same game....

Looks like it won't have any issues passing Fallout 3 sales. Amazing. Well done Bethesda!

The early reviews forced me to venture into the Elder Scroll's unknown territory called Skyrim. I don't dig Fantasy RPG that much and never played Morrowind and Oblivion. 1 hour into the game I started cursing myself for wasting my hard earned cash. 2 hours later, I went stark raving crazy over the game and couldn't stop playing. Deserves the sales numbers. GOTY for me at this moment. Other games can go take a hike!

Yeah, It took me a couple of hours before it hooked me as well. I may actually like Skyrim more than Fallout 3...

I hope this settles the argument about wether or not the X360 can sell games that are not FPS.

BUHAHAHAH THE SHITTY PC NUMBERS ONCE MORE! No matter if they include digital pc sold like utter shit. Best case scenario it sold same ammount in digital on pc and I doubt that. Since even Witcher 2 sold 3 times more in retail on pc. Pc gaming is dying fast :D Oblivion sold really well on pc and now Skyrim sells peanuts on pc LOL!

Spoken like a true console-blinded idiot. You really think you can sum up the fate of PC gaming by ONE game? What are you, 12 years old? Let me explain it to you, punk. There are actually a sizeable number of PC gamers who have made the decision NOT to buy Skyrim because of the fact that the interface has been DUMBED DOWN for the console pricks. It's an insult to PC gaming and to PC gamers. I know that the difficult concept of a keyboard, mouse, and operating system is beyond your comprehension, and I have no doubt that most console gamers would have trouble operating something as advanced as a PC... not that I think they could stop smoking dope in thier single mom's basement long enough to figure it out, of course.

The next piece of education you should study is the fact that, besides Oblivion and Skryim, there have been practically zero GOOD roleplaying games for consoles. (Key word, "good", in case you missed it. Read it again, slowly, if it helps.) Naturally, after being treated like cheap hookers and getting screwed over by one lousy $60 FPS after another, console gamers are going to be STARVED for something decent and different. I give you Skyrim.

There are still PLENTY of PC-only games that sell incredibly well, and there are even more that started on the PC and THEN went to consoles, so your punk-ass wouldn't have anything to crow about if it wasn't for the PC in the first place. You need to stop and recognize the hand that feeds you or it just might turn around and backhand your foolish mouth.

Little bitch got angry because you know im right. You say one game. Let me tell you a little secret. Every single multiplatform game sells more on consoles way more and is pirated in the millions on pc. Most of the smarter people have abandoned the sinking ship that is pc gaming.

Oh dear what a pea-brained moron you are, only to be expected from someone that plays games on out dated gear, did you know the next gen cbox 720 will use an ati 6670 gpu? That gpu has been around for over a year, PC's will be 20 times the power of the new xbox! HAHAHAHAHAH CONSOLE TARD!

this is so great, they didn't dumb down the game to much and yet they get some real good sales

  • -1
usrevenge (on 14 November 2011)

PC sales were most likely around 1.2million, as the steam numbers at any given time were around the 800k mark.

game of the year easy

  • -1
nilli usrevenge (on 15 November 2011)

The hell they are. Skyrim retail version uses steamworks so every retail copy is registered on steam too. It sold like shit on pc so STFU. Also the hell it has had 800K simultaneous players. it broke the 200K mark sure but 800K HAHAHAHAH LOL and again it has all the pc retail copies included.

enrageorange (on 14 November 2011)

Imagine if it had more then two days to sell in its first week. Battlefield had 4 days and at least according to the npd its numbers should be adjusted down. Skyrim might have outsold it in only 2 days. This should hopefully become the second best selling game of the year considering all the praise its been getting by the fans and critics. Maybe developers will see a game doesn't need to be all about guns to sell well on the hd consoles. I wouldn't mind playing some skyrim clones in the future.

ramses01 (on 14 November 2011)

If you add steam sales, that could well be as high as 4 million.

I bought it off steam last night. Never played an Elder Scrolls game either. Not really sure what I was thinking. But it's pretty good so far.

I'm a cat girl by the way.

enrageorange pezus (on 14 November 2011)

they seem right. Everyone who legally bought skyrim had to play it via steam. First day skyrim peaked at 230k people online at the same time in steam. So around 500k people bought it opening day. Second day the number rose to 280k simultaneously. So around 300k more people bought the game. According to this retail copies sold about 476k. Its pretty reasonable that the remaining 325k was via digital copies.

  • 0
crissindahouse pezus (on 15 November 2011)

yeah you underestimate it. in germany pc gaming is HUGE! and skyrim will have even bigger pc sales because of the mods. if you go to german forums almost everyone bought the game for pc.

  • +1
nilli pezus (on 17 November 2011)

Almost everybody bought the game LOL! Almost everybody pirated the game on pc. The retail copies are included in the steam stats you freaking morons since the game uses steamworks. The pc sales were absolutely crappy and bethesda will never ever make pc focused title.

My surroundings on PC : 100% box 0% DD. I'm not sure but globally I think DD is 50% of the market on PC but maybe not for big games like this one : too big ?
