Americas Preorders Chart, 13th Mar 2010 - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 15 March 2010 / 14,588 Views

God of War III pre-orders hit 485,000 units this week, significantly more than recent PS3 hits like Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy XIII. The biggest individual format release so far this year in the Americas was the 725,000 opening for Mass Effect 2 following a 475,000 unit final pre-order tally. As we first projected a couple of months back, God of War III looks like setting a very similar week one figure - anything from 650,000 to 750,000 is possible in the Americas next week with a good chance at being the biggest week one of the year so far. With recent reports of 225,000 retailer pre-orders in Canada alone, it looks like the initial Americas shipment could be as high as two million units.

Unfortunately for God of War III, Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver also releases next week. With a much slower pre-order buildup, final pre-orders have now hit more than 450,000 units with over a quarter of those from the last seven days alone. It is likely that Pokemon will outsell God of War III next week - a week one total of over 800,000 is likely given the fact that a smaller percentage of buyers are likely to pre-order the title than something like God of War.

http://i.usatoday.net/communitymanager/_photos/game-hunters/2009/12/15/zhuzhupetscreenshotx-large.jpg

The biggest suprise this week is Zhu Zhu Pets. A title which has really come out of nowhere for most gamers, pre-orders have now passed 55,000 units with over 60% of that from the last week alone. A week one of over 100,000 units is looking likely at this pace, quite a rare feat for a 3rd party DS game and given the long-term sales that DS titles often see it wouldn't be a suprise to see this hit a million units sometime this year.

@Makasha: amen...I have had my fair share of time playing both ps3 and wii...ps3 is just more fun to me, yet apparently the Wii is twice as good because it sold twice as much, haha...

  • 0
Makaha (on 17 March 2010)

@Cueil

Do you realize NSMB Wii outsold Halo 3 in just a matter of weeks?

Don't use sales figures to measure the quality of a game.

MK Wii sold almost twice as many copies as Halo 3!!

Nintendogs sold 23 million!!

Are you saying MK Wii and Nintendogs are twice as good as Halo 3 ??

I hate when people equate sales with a games quality.

Madworld did terrible sales on the Wii, but does that mean that it's a bad game??

The upcoming game line up from MS just doesn't interest me....outside of Fable 3

At least Sony takes chances on new and interesting IPs like LittleBigPlanet, Heavy Rain and the upcoming Modnation Racers.

I don't have a PS3, I swap my 360 with my friends PS3, we've been doing that since PS2/Xbox, but I can honestly say, the PS3 line up is more interesting than the 360 line up.

And by the way, the two best games to me on the PS3 is Valkyria Chronicles and Demon's Souls, but they didn't sell very well....
but that doesn't mean they're not good games

compare halo 3 to gran turismo all you want...but gran turismo fans have been waiting 2 1/2 years longer for a full game to come out...gt5 will sell at least 10 million units, I just don't think Halo: Reach will...that would mean it sells more than MW2 has sold so far...and I have heard a lot of people say that they are over the Halo generation now.

there is one game that will beat Halo this fall. This game is GT5.Halo 3 weren't even close to GT 3 sales...

halo reach will sell near halo 3 levels

  • 0
Cueil (on 16 March 2010)

if there is any R.I.P. involved it's going to be every game that competes against Halo this fall... Reach will easily do GoW3 ltd numbers in it's first hour much less it's first full day.... though I understand that you're probably part of the new GoW3 Religion and I shouldn't be insensitive

I agree with Makaha. Prequels sucks.

Halo series has nothing more to show. It´s an empty series.
R.I.P Halo.

GoW 3 RULES.

  • 0
Wonktonodi (on 16 March 2010)

some of you guys are just adding the 250k from Canada as preorders to costumers when that was what the retailers ordered.

  • 0
Makaha (on 16 March 2010)

I don't know about Halo Reach....

It's a prequel....

To me, most prequels suck, look at the Star Wars prequels....

I mean, to me, you already know what's going to happen in the future games/movies, so it's a turn-off to me....I mean to go back in time in the story, it's just a turn-off

I mean, we already know what happened in Halo 1, 2 and 3, so why go back in time??

I've never like prequels in movies or games, so I won't be getting Halo Reach....

And the first Crackdown was an AVERAGE game, at best.

When I played Crackdown, I only maxed out the strength part of the leveling up, but honestly, I got bored of the game after that, and I stopped playing it, it was an average game at best

....so I won't be getting Crackdown 2

and what's with Alan Wake, I never even heard about the game until a few months ago....what's so good about it?

The only 360 game I'm looking forward to is Fable 3

I'm getting Fable 3 day one :-)

But there's nothing else in the 360s upcoming game line up that interests me....I'm burnt out on the Halo series (I didn't even bother to get ODST), and I've never liked Gears, so.....

come on MS, bring out some intriguing games....

and enough with the shooters already!!

Wait so with Canada pre-orders is it 750k for GoW3? Or is it already included?
Either way I hope World Wide it does 2 million because Europe Loves this game more than NA.
At least give us 1.5 million oh mighty sale Gods.

Man oh man, once GOW3 is out, nothing left to really look forward to as "huge" titles go except for Gran Turismo 5. Kinda weird it will be not to be almost forced to buy a game, I've been making huge dents in my wallet.

  • 0
--OkeyDokey-- (on 15 March 2010)

Yeah, it seems Sony waiting till the last minute to start advertising GoW III so we won't see the effect of that in the preorders. I'm hoping for 750k at least.

  • 0
iWarMachine (on 15 March 2010)

i'm totally agreed with prodigy.
with Heavy Rain doing those numbers even with only 100k pre-orders leads me to think that God Of War can do the same thing...since both are single player games hyped as hell.

  • 0
restored_lost (on 15 March 2010)

theres a lot of xbox up there, wonder what the next big thing ps3 owners have to look forward too, gt5?modnation will be okay but not too big. we need release dates for lat gaurdian and versus 13!

  • 0
ProdigyBam (on 15 March 2010)

I find it odd that Ioi didnt consider that the Tv ads for GoW3 just started to air on the 13th, the day the pre order charts ended.
So 30-50k should be possible until launch, making it 515-535k pre orders total. 515-535k X 1,52 (same as with ME2 and they are both quite similiar, despite the fact that advertisement started much earlier for mass effect = more pre orders less sales, i assume)
775k-815k first week for GoW3 (not counting that advertisement only influenced the pre order sales for about 3 days, that means a much higher week is likely)
Dont know how ioi thinks that it will only make "650-750k".
And to be honest, we all saw how Heavy Rain made 2 times the pre order totals in its first week, without Tv Spots in America so i think there is a possibilty fpr GoW3 to make 900-1000k
But we will see soon enough..

Zhu Zhu Pets must have gotten a commercial....that steep increase is amazing.

MH3 gets a little love from the demos and the commercials still haven't aired yet. Now that I think about it, Capcom has a lot of games on that list.

Red Steel 2 will probably pull an NMH and sell just about double its final preorder numbers in the first week. Ubisoft probably won't advertise this either, but with all the money they've made off the Just Dance/Assassin's Creed 2 tandem, I don't see why not.

Resonance of Fate is doing a little worse than I expected but w/e.
Just Cause 2 doesn't look too hot. Maybe more people will buy it if they think it is a spin-off of Just Dance. The Just brand lol

  • 0
sniper936 (on 15 March 2010)

pokemon? really. PEOPLE STILL BUY POKEMON GAMES? I thought no more than 10 people will buy it, despite this is the first i have heard of the game. i mean japan and other asian countries may like pokemon still, but the Americas charts hitting that high on a game for 4 year olds? confusing to say the least.

@gekkokamen

If you would have told me a month ago that this would be the case, then I would have said you were "off your rocker" :-) However, we have to wait to see the total sales figures before we jump to any conclusions. I am picking up GOW III tonight, Pokemon, however; is a venerable series, but I stopped playing those titles when my left testicle descended :-)

Soo after this PS3 madness, the Wii will start haing a good wave of releases, with RS2, MH3, SMG and then metroid in the next 4 months. Its been sometime since we've had a consistent amount of releases on the Wii(well relatively at least).

GoW3 is gonna have a massive debut, so is Pokemon(even though i expected more). IT's barely been 3 months and we've already had so many great releases!
