Nintendo this week announced shipments figures for the Nintendo Switch reached 92.87 million units as of September 30, 2021.

The president of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa in the policy briefing for the earnings report revealed Nintendo Switch Online now has over 32 million paid members as of September.

"The number of members who are subscribed to Nintendo switch Online, a service for Nintendo Switch users, is increasing along with the growth of the hardware install base," Furukawa. "It has reached more than 32 million accounts as of September 2021.

"By enhancing services, we have increased the opportunities for members continue playing Nintendo Switch. These enhancements include Game Trial events, which allow users to play a specific title during a specific time period and addition of member-exclusive games.

"Last month, we released Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, a new membership plan that adds content to the existing services.

"Going forward, we will continue to improve and expand both Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion pack, striving to provide services that satisfy consumers."

Now it's fixed.

I cannot believe that 32 million people are paying for that.

I guess now we know why they feel like they can get away with this stupid expansion of the service into N64 and Sega games.

Same here buddy... Nintendo, again, doing much less and still scoring points.

I think 32 million is including the standard plan which is mandatory to play games like MK8, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Smash, etc

Why are you surprised? It's suuuuuper cheap. Who wouldn't pay for it?! Loads of people play Switch games online and/or love retro Nintendo games and they can get both of those for pocket change. Or are you one of these "paying any amount of money for online services is thievery" people?

The service sucks. I'm a Switch owner, and a Nintendo fan. But, I don't sub. Tons of Switch owners are kids, many of whom I figured don't sub. So, I'm surprised that they can get that many people to pay.

Depends on what u games u play. I play animal crossing with friends and the online service does its job and it works. Agree its not the best but it does do what it suppose to do.

Agree. Main reason why I bought it. I am in nz and it's only 32 bucks for 12 months. That's less than 3 dollars per month lol. U get what u pay for

Agreed. That's the key thing people forget when comparing it to Xbox Live or PSN. While it's no where near as feature rich... It's much cheaper in comparison.

1/3 of switch owners paying 20 per year? How is that surprising? You have to do it for online. Plus the cloud saves and SNES/NES. 20 per year really isn't much.

"Nintendo Switch Online has Over 32 Million Paid Members..."

...and at least dozens of people who have subscribed to the Expansion Pack. :P

I kid, I'm sure hundreds of thousands have, maybe even the low millions.

Any idea if a family pack is counted as one or 7? Provided the family group has 7 members...

"32 million accounts" is what they say so I would take that to include every account signed up to a family plan as well.

It is a little more understandable when you factor that in.

They're probably averaging something like $10 per account per year.
