Source 2 Inches Closer, Dota 2 Engine Overhaul Detailed - News
by Craig S , posted on 12 June 2015 / 4,529 ViewsValve has just announced an impending update to Dota 2 which signals that the release of its much-anticipated Source 2 game engine isn't far off.
The Dota 2 blog post, titled Reborn, details a number of major improvements coming to the game in beta form in the near future, including a new interface, a revamped hero browser, and improved replay functionality. It also teases the official unveiling of custom games next week. All of this will utilise the new game engine.

These announcements, which look set to be rolled out over the next three weeks, are being made ahead of the release of the Source 2 game engine, which these improvements will make use of.
Valve signalled that it would release its new game engine in the first half of 2015 in a blog post late last year - it looks like the infamous Valve time mightn't prevent that from actually happening this time.
More information on the new game engine will be released at the end of next week.
