New Killzone in Development

by Jake Weston, posted on 19 November 2011 / 2,032 Views

According to the latest issue of EDGE Magazine, Guerrila Games is currently at work on the next entry in PlayStation exclusive Killzone series. Guerrila Games' Senior Producer Steven Ter Heide is acting as the director of the project, which the "the bulk of Guerrilla's staff [currently working] on".

Guerrila has also revealed that they have a new IP in the works, but no information is available on it at this time.

With this generation of consoles seemingly nearing its close, could Guerrila Games be working on a Killzone title for the next generation?

Killzone 2 and 3 are some of the best shooters of this generation, and I'm excited to see where Guerrila Games takes the franchise in the future.

fantastic news! it's actually a combo deal..next KZ PLUS New IP! Love the MP of the franchise, I just hope they improve the story telling aspect of the SP (Take some advice/help from SM or ND for that)

Sales may not be a strong point, but Killzone is perhaps the most challenging of the FPS genre and for me personally the best, I love the story, I love the characters (bar Rico of course) and the online play is superb ^_^ if kids on CoD is proving to become a nuisance I would recommend picking up and 3 as their both brilliant and I'm sure that this new Killzone will be no exception. Given the latest trend of PS2/P remasterings I would love to see the first game and Liberation get the PS3 treatment before this generation is over

Guerrilla Games can take the franchise anywhere they please so as long as they finally kill Rico.

I bet you their new IP will be an early title for the PS4. Something new to appeal to the hardcore gamers.

I call Vita Killzone.

errr...I'm so disappointed in this Killzone 3. As a hardcore KZ2 fan, GG sold out for Call of duty kids gameplay. Not sure if want another Killzone in this gen. anyways, i hope GG returns for you roots instead pleased the COD fanboys in new game...

I didn't see much wrong with the gameplay in 3 as opposed to 2. I mean yea the LMG spray could be given a little more recoil as the rapid fire on it is ridiculous and accurate, but with the other guns I still just do bursts of 3 shots to get most of my kills. I reached top 3% worldwide for over a month or 2, but school prevented me from pushing top 1-2% so I did have a field day with 3, but the recoil and the heaviness is still there. You cannot dare call KZ3 a twitch shooter. If you wanna play against me and friends to prove your "hardcoreness" in KZ2 feel free to hit me up next week, my PSN is Onikenshi. KZ3 is just fine, you're just butthurt cuz you lost the edge against other people, luckily i never did :).

I know exactly how you feel. KZ 3 lost the uniqueness of KZ2 and became just like another COD follower. The upgrade system wasn't very good, it lost the meaty feel when running and so on . The only thing I liked about the demo was the knife kills and the multiplayer where the match has cutscenes in it. @ demonfox13, you're not actually really giving any reasons to argue against what chidori-chan2 said, you're just trying to prove that you're good at KZ3. Well done for that, it contributes nothing to your point.

Super excited for this! Killzone is definitely my favorite shooter series. It deserves the sales CoD gets.

kivi95 (on 19 November 2011)

Hopefully it will be a combination of KZ2 and KZ3

its about time, after the damage GG had made to KZ3 on the mp side. hands downs KZ2 is still the best. IF GG's new IP or Next KZ should have elements of KZ2 mp

It's good to know that Sony can keep pushing a franchise to please its fanbase.

I say the next Killzone for PS3 or Vita, and the new IP for PS4.

Hopefully it gets the hype Killzone 2 had and can compete with Halo series

SecondWar (on 19 November 2011)

It won't. Have you seen the difference in sales between Killzone2/Halo3 and Killzone 3/Halo Reach?

by hype do you mean it gets the support of rabid fans that flood so much praise for the unreleased game that it seems as everyone on the net is awaiting it patiently... only for the game to sell just decently despite great reviews??
If that then I sincerely hope not, it ended up being both annoying for bystanders and pitiful once the results were in...

Look at Battlefield 3 and compare it with the PS3 version and PC.... look at the difference. Consoles are weak these days. I think the next Killzone could be good, but time is going on and so are the entire gaming cuality changing. We need a new PS4 on the market if we want to follow the stream in the right way.

Why?
