Professor Layton and Ace Attorney Sales Numbers Revealed - News
by Nicholas Taylor , posted on 20 October 2010 / 6,967 ViewsBecause of the amazingly awesome crossover announced by Level-5 yesterday, which also got a trailer today, namely the Professor Layton vs. Ace Atttorney game, Capcom decided to share with us the total sales figures for Level-5's Professor Layton series as well as their very own Ace Attorney series.
It turns out that Ace Attorney, including all of its different ports (cell phones, WiiWare, etc.), has reached a total of 3.9 million sales across all games. Professor Layton, on the other hand, who has kept his games exclusively on the DS, is a much bigger success story with its tally currently at 9.5 million units sold.
Despite the fact that the fan reaction has been nothing short of humongous for this crossover, the two companies maintain that their main focus is to bring in new gamers: "We feel that by drawing upon the strengths of both series, this collaboration will bring new, casual game players to the adventure game genre and into the world of gaming in general while strengthening the value of the two brands overall."
In other news, Capcom have confirmed on the Capcom Unity forums that there are currently no plans to release the crossover outside of Japan. “The game has only been announced for Japan. Want it available outside of Japan? Shout out in the comments! The more comments we get for this blog post, the better,” said jgonzo, on the forums.
It should be noted that it's highly likely the game will make it both to the US and Europe, considering every single game in both series has (or has plans to), so far.

@radishhead, jumpin & salnax, thanks! :) Based on your comments and the reviews these titles get, I think I'm definitely gonna try one of the games and see how it goes. Thanks again!
This game looks to be great! Can't wait.
@Amberite The Ace Attorney games are a combination of point and click adventure and a fantastic parody of the Japanese judicial system. Layton games are, if anything, targeted at the Brain Age crowd, combining puzzles with a story that is accessible but not childish.
By the way, the disparity between the two series, especially considering Layton's recent entry into gaming and the various Attorney ports, amazes me.
Well, I'm 29, Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton are my two favourite original DS game series. Well, Phoenix Wright DS is technically a remake of the GBA games, but it was first released on DS where I live.
@Amberite Actually, the Professor Layton series is aimed at an older audience, because the themes are quite adult and the puzzles are challenging. I would also argue that older gamers would appreciate Phoenix Wright more than younger ones.
@hagelt
I totally agree
Phoenix Wright FTW!
Can someone tell me something? Are these two series mainly for kids? As a 28 year old adult, will I be really turned off by these games? The premises sound right up my alley, but I'm a little afraid of the cartoony / kiddy graphics and overall look of the game.
Again, I love Level-5! XD
Phoenix Wright will always be the better of the two in my eyes...sales be damned!
TAKE THAT!
don't screw us over Capcom
Can't wait, my most awaited 3DS game!!!!!!
