Rumor: Next Battlefield Called Battlefield V, Set in WWII - News

The next Battlefield game is called Battlefield V, according to sources speaking with VentureBeat. The game will return to World War II for the first time since Battlefield 1943 released in 2009.

According to the sources, Electronic Arts will reveal the game soon and release it before the end of the year. EA had previously stated it planned to release a new Battlefield game in October, however, it wasn't known what the setting of the game was.

I already didn't like the Battlefield 1 name, but now it'll just mess things up. :-P

The naming kind of makes sense... kind of. Originally there was Battlefield 2, 3, and 4 so it made sense to name the last game 1 since it matched up with WWI and they had skipped that number anyway. And it works to name this game 5 as the next entry in the series. I think they went with the roman numeral since it isn't a direct sequel to the modern games (2/3/4).

Awesome. Battlefield 1 was amazing and I loved it's setting. I hope this is true as I don't want a modern battlefield.

I am not surprised at this, especially after CoD received a great reception.

The problem with cod wwII for me was that it played like a futuristic cod and that there where no progress in physics or game modes

First they make a Battlefield game set on WWI and call it Battlefield One, but now they're making one set on WWII and calling it Battlefield V? So this new game is part of the main series but One is not?

Wow, a popular FPS franchise going back to its WWII roots! Not like I've seen that happen few months ago...

And we can all see what is happening here. They all start out in WW1 and WW2, progress to the point where you're futuristic idiots with jetpacks, gamers complain, then they go back and start again etc.

Bad decision in my opinion, we don't need another old styled world war game, both Battlefield and Call of Duty have done one, I think both companies are missing the point.

Everyone over the last few years has been asking for "boots on the ground" nobody was asking necessarily for that to mean we only want to play WW1 and WW2 games.

Going to skip this one for sure..

This game was in development before CoD WW2 was revealed. CoD just got their game out first because of the dev cycle.
