Steam Sets New Record with 8.4 Million Concurrent Users on January 1 - News

Steam hit a new record last week reaching eight million concurrent users online at the same time for the time in the digital distribution service's history. Now only a few days later a new record was reached with 8,466,190 concurrent users online, according to VG247.

The most popular games for the day include DOTA 2, Counter Strike: GO, Team Fortress 2, Football Manager 15, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The Steam Holiday Sale ends today at 1PM Eastern / 10AM Pacific.

This is what happens when Microsoft and Sony can't get their servers up in time(I'm looking art you, (Sony).

If PSN wasn't down i wouldn't have purchased Tomb Raider, but now I'll be buying more games from Steam rather than retail/psn.

I don't think their downtime affected Steam numbers much, as there was no big spike in numbers and records were broken after PSN and XBL were fixed.
