PS4 is holding out longer than expected, though Wii should take the lead by July. The holidays are going to be very interesting though.

I expect the Wii to take the lead sometime this year, but in 3-4 years the PS4 will take the lead again. The Wii sold really really much in 2008-09, but after that it went downhill.

This is of course if the PS4 really takes on.

It certainly might. Knowing Sony hardware legs, it has an excellent chance to. That said, the Wii was ahead of the PS2, when you align the launches, until after its fifth year. Considering this, the fact that PS4 isn't keeping up with Wii at this point makes me think PS4, if it does catch on, won't pass Wii until year 5 or 6.

Interesting chart series. Though I think PS4's last years in its lifecycle will be far better than the Wii's, the PS4 may have a hard time matching the Wii's prime years.

2-3 years time, we will see PS4 make ground on the Wii. You guys should do a PS4 - PS2 comparison, you used to track PS2.

Without Japan it'll be hard for PS4 to remain fastest selling consoles for lpng

On the assumption this will be a shorter generation than the last, PS4 will probably end up selling similar to PS3 but it will take less time to get there. That's my best case scenario for what will probably be the highest selling console of this gen.

It should be remembered that Wii was an outburst in sales. It continued for 3 years and then slumped. Sony consoles, on the hand, keep increasing for at least 4-5 years, given the momentum, and continue selling for at least another 3-4 years. So overall, PS4 will sell have sold more than Wii

On June Wii outsell PS4.
Let's see if PS4 will be able to retrieve it.

USA:
Wii=305,000
PS4=230,000
EU:
Wii=280,000
PS4=215,000
Wii have sold more in all places...

When if ever will PS4 come back after it ducks under Wii in ~June is the question. Wii will grow a big lead next year and the following year it seems, the year PS4 might be able to start trending to closing the gap is 2017.
We'll see in time but for right now I'd wager on it not catching up.

The wii will blow by the ps4 and leave it in the dust. The wii was on very short supply for 2 years, and the ps4 is already well stocked. End of story.

Until later in the gen when the PS4 will pass it again.
