Ouya Devs Share Game Sales Figures - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 23 July 2013 / 9,313 Views

A bunch of developers have revealed sales figures for several of their games for the Android based console the Ouya. TowerFall which is the most well known exclusive has managed to sell 2,000 units, generating $30,000.

"We’ve made about 2000 sales so far at $15 each," TowerFall developer Matt Thorson told Edge. "So sales have been surprisingly high for a new game on a new console. The game has definitely proven itself on Ouya, I think there’s enough demand to warrant bringing it to PC."

"The response has been amazing. A lot of high profile people in games have been praising the game, which is of course fantastic, and there’s been a lot of talk among gamers as well. Launching on Ouya got me a lot of attention, and the sales have been better than expected."

NimbleBit has been downloaded 6,508 times, however only 122 people have purchased the game. Red has only sold just under 400 units. Organ Trail developer has stated that the game has only sold half of what his low end predictions were. The game was downloaded 13,112 times and 501 people ended up purchasing the title.

However, other developers have been happy so far with the sales figures of their titles. Super Crate Box is a free download and developer Rami Imsail has told Gamasutra that sales numbers are exactly what he had expected. Get on Top developer Shay Pierce is also happy with the sales of the game so far. It has been downloaded 9,700 times and 520 people have purchased the game.

they're probably games which people put together in their spare time and cost almost nothing other than some time of people who could be unemployed or doing it as a hobby because they enjoy it.

I guess this should put an end to the silly articles and statements about how the ouya is somehow going to conquer Nintendo/sony/MS's console businesses

best review about the Ouya has to be from Ashens on youtube, found a pre release one inside a 2nd hand store where the person who backed it sold it instantly on getting his.

These are numbers for small-budget downloadable indie-titles on a newly released console with little advertisement.

That they are small does not mean they are bad.

Of course they can in no way compare to big-budget boxed titles in sales. But they don't have to.

"I think there’s enough demand to warrant bringing it to PC."

Shouldn't it be the other way around? PC is an infinitely larger market, using Ouya sales as a barometer doesn't make any sense.
