Overall hardware sales increased by five percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are up for the next generation platforms, and down for the current generation of platforms. Year-on-year sales are down 30 percent. Also no platforms are up year-on-year. The Wii has dropped by 73 percent, the biggest by percent, while the Vita has the smallest drop at 14 percent.
Eight games debuted in the top 30 this week. Gears of War: Judgment (X360) debuted at the top of the software charts with sales of 776,052. The game launched worldwide.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) passed the three million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are up for the Wii U, and down for the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360. PlayStation 3 sales are down 6,779 (-5%) to 116,859 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 38,290 (-10%) to 75,990 units sold. The Wii U sold 59,311 units, an increase of 31,715 (115%). The Wii sold 20,497 units, a decrease of 20,497 (-4%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are up for the 3DS and Vita, and down for the DS, and PSP. The 3DS sold 137,168 units, which is up 6,543 (5%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita up 3,587 (7%) to 58,146 units sold. The PSP sold 20,402 units which is down 1,090 (-5%) compared to last week. The DS is down 665 (-3%) to 19,474 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 24,100 units (5%) to 507,847 units sold.
No platforms are up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 45,840 (-28%), the Wii is down 54,632 (-73%), and the Xbox 360 is down 37,282 (-33%). The PSP is down 53,348 (-72%), the DS is down 26,378 (-58%), the Vita is down 9,117 (-14%) and the 3DS is down 49.964 (-27%). Year on year sales are down 217,250 units (-30%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the Wii U for one week and decreased for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 for five straight weeks. The PlayStation 3 has led for the last 13 weeks. The Wii U has outsold its predecessor, the Wii, for four straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 55 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 36 percent market share; and the Wii has a nine percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Wii U is up, while the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 are down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the 3DS for two weeks, Vita for one week and have decreased for the DS for one week and the PSP for two weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased to 79,000 units this week, up from 77,000 units last week.
The PSP has a 51 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds and the DS with 49 percent. The 3DS has a 70 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 30 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Vita us up, while the 3DS, DS and PSP are down.
Worldwide Software
Eight games debuted in the top 30 this week. Gears of War: Judgment (X360) debuted at the top of the software charts with sales of 776,052. The game launched worldwide.
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) debuted at number two with sales of 287,259. The game launched in Japan.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 (PS3) debuted at number three with sales of 274,241. The Vita version debuted at number 16 with sales of 58,776. The game launched in Japan.
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct (X360) debuted at number five with sales of 138,022. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number 11 with sales of 85,963. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2013 (PS3) debuted at number six with sales of 104,442. The PSP version debuted at number 13 with sales of 80,669. The Game launched in Japan.
Lego City Undercover (WiiU) debuted at number nine with sales of 90,416. The game launched in North America.
Disgaea D2 (PS3) debuted at number 18 with sales of 54,880. The game launched in Japan.
Pretty Rhythm: My Deco Rainbow Wedding (3DS) debuted at number 25 with sales of 33,619. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: God of War: Ascension (PS3) is at number four with sales of 163,557. Tomb Raider (2013) (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 96,334. Monster Hunter Tri (3DS) is at number eight with sales of 93,289. StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm (PC) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 89,727.
Software home console sales week-on-week are up for the Wii, Xbox 360, and Wii U and down for the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 sold the most games this week with sales of 1.99 million, an increase of 752,275 units (61%). The PlayStation 3 sold 1.99 million games this week, a decrease of 346,820 units (-15%). Wii software sales are up 6,852 units (1%) to 536,255 games sold. The Wii U sold 295,834 games, an increase of 223,585 (309%).
Handheld software sales are up for the 3DS, Vita and DS, and down for the PSP. The 3DS sold 866,910 games, which is up 272,901 units (46%). The DS sold 371,610 games, an increase of 27,389 units (8%) week-on-week. Vita game sales are up 97,135 units (60%) to 257,941 games sold. The PSP sold 226,373 games, a decrease of 34,773 (-13%). Total combined software is up 998,544 units (18%) week-on-week to 6.54 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, 3DS and Vita and down for the Wii, DS and PDP. The PlayStation 3 is up 32,299 units (2%), the Wii is down 599,188 units (-53%) and the Xbox 360 is up 219,255 units (12%). The DS is down 166,807 units (-31%), the PSP is down 151,915 units (-40%), the 3DS is up 216,519 units (33%), and the Vita is up 137,116 units (113%). Total combined software is down 16,887 million units (0%) games sold year on year.
Home console software sales have increased for one week for the Xbox 360 and Wii U, and decreased for the PlayStation 3 for one week and the Wii for five straight weeks. The Xbox 360 has led for one week and two of the last 10 weeks. The PlayStation 3 led for the other eight weeks.
The Xbox 360 has a 44 percent market share, the PlayStation 3 with 44 percent, and the Wii with 12 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U are up, and the Wii is down.
The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the 14th straight week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than three times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold two thirds more games than the PSP.
The DS has a 62 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 38 percent market share. The 3DS has a 77 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 31 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds sold more games.
