Hardware sales have evened out this week after five straight weeks of drops. 484,405 consoles were sold this week. Week-on-week the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and 3DS are up, while the Wii, DS, PSP and Vita are down. Year-on-year sales are down 43 percent. The Vita is the only platform up year-on-year.
No games debuted in the top 30 this week.
There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are up PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and 3DS, while the Wii, DS, PSP and Vita are down. PlayStation 3 sales are up 4,344 (4%) to 106,882 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up just 84 (0%) to 75,643 units sold. The Wii U sold 37,755 units, an increase of 3,455 (10%). The Wii sold 21,477 units, a decrease of 4,513 (-17%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are up for the 3DS, and down for the DS, PSP, and Vita. The 3DS sold 169,183 units, which is up 1,562 (1%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita is down 433 (-2%) to 25,916 units sold. The PSP sold 24,694 units which is down 1,746 (-7%) compared to last week. The DS is down 1,531 (-6%) to 22,855 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 1,222 units (0%) to 484,405 units.
The PlayStation Vita is the only platform up year-on-Year. The PlayStation 3 is down 99,782 (-48%), the Wii is down 92,561 (-81%), and the Xbox 360 is down 119,793 (-61%). The PSP is down 53,996 (-69%), the DS is down 30,841 (-57%), the Vita is up 6,160 (31%) and the 3DS is down 19,657 (-10%). Year on year sales are down 372,715 units (-43%).
Home console hardware sales have dropped significantly since the week ending December 22; however sales have just about evened out this week. The PlayStation 3 has led for six straight weeks and seven of the last 10 weeks. The Xbox 360 led for two of the other weeks and the Wii U one of the weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 52 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 37 percent market share; and the Wii has an 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four home consoles are down.
Handheld hardware sales after five straight weeks of drops, have almost evened. The DS, and Vita have all dropped for six straight weeks and the PSP for four straight weeks. The 3DS has increased slightly this week after five straight weeks of drops. The 3DS remains well above all the other handhelds, outselling them combined.
The PSP has a 52 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds and the DS with 48 percent. The 3DS has an 87 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 13 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
Worldwide Software
No games debuted in the top 30 this week.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Ninokuni: Shiroki Seihai no Joou (PS3) is at number one with sales of 175,428. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (X360) is at number two with sales of 91,611 units. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3) is at number three with sales of 884,955 units. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is at number four with sales of 65,785. Far Cry 3 (PS3) is at number five with sales of 50,462.
FIFA Soccer 13 (PS3) is at number six with sales of 50,075. Far Cry 3 (X360) is at number seven with sales of 47,461. Just Dance 4 (Wii) is at number eight with sales of 46,223. New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) is at number nine with sales of 43,687. DmC (PS3) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 43,266.
Software home console sales week on week are up across the board. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 1.62 million, an increase of 38,308 units (2%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.43 million games this week, an increase of 69,546 units (5%). Wii software sales are up 74,866 units (13%) to 667,460 games sold. The Wii U sold 9,068 games, an increase of 9,068 (10%).
Handheld software sales are up for the DS, and down for the PSP, Vita and 3DS. The 3DS sold 464,793 games, which is down 3,375 units (-1%). The DS sold 369,053 games, an increase of 63,698 units (21%) week on week. PSP game sales are down 3,952 units (-2%) to 167,450 games sold. The Vita sold 125,025 games, a decrease of 25,613 (-17%). Total combined software is up 222,546 units (5%) week on week to 4.95 million.
Year on year software totals is up for the 3DS and PlayStation Vita, and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 802,640 units (-33%), the Wii is down 706,300 units (-51%) and the Xbox 360 is down 553,514 units (-28%). The DS is down 186,951 units (21%), the PSP is down 99,448 units (-2%), the 3DS is up 14,734 units (3%), and the Vita is up 69,325 units (124%). Total combined software is down 2.16 million units (-30%) games sold year on year.
Software sales have increased for two weeks for the PlayStation 3 and Wii, and one week for the Xbox 360 and Wii U. The PlayStation 3 has led for five straight weeks and the Xbox 360 led for the nine prior weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 43 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with 39 percent, and the Wii with 18 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all four home consoles are down.
The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the seventh straight week and for the seventh time in 10 weeks. The DS led for the other three weeks. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively.
The DS has a 69 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 31 percent market share. The 3DS has a 79 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 21 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
