Rift Developer Trion Worlds Hit with Layoffs - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 12 December 2012 / 7,417 Views

MMO Rift developer Trion Worlds has laid off nearly one third of their development team, according to Gamasutra. Around 40 employees spanning artists and designers have been let go.

"As a response to market conditions, product timelines and the natural evolution of our company, we have made some organizational changes, which include a workforce reduction, said a Trion Worlds representative. "This was a difficult decision and we wish the best for those affected by these changes. At Trion, we remain focused on delivering top quality online game experiences, and are committed to supporting Rift and launching our highly anticipated new titles Defiance, Warface, and End of Nations in 2013."

Trion Worlds released the Rift expansion Ace Storm Legion last month. The expansion tripled the size of the game world. Trion Worlds hasn't divulged into the number of subscriptions for the game.

This news comes just one week after there were layoffs at Petroglyph, who were developing End of Nations. The game was moved in house at Trion Worlds.
