3DS sales increased 11 percent due to the release of New Super Mario Bros. 2. Hardware sales week on week are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, 3DS, and Vita, and are down a tiny bit for the Wii, DS, and PSP. Overall sales are up six percent week on week. All hardware is down year on year, and is down an overall 38 percent.
Two games debuted in the top 30 this week. Darksiders II for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation is the top debut this week. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number two with sales of 208,798, while the PlayStation 3 version debuted at number three with sales of 195,268. Software milestones this week in the top 30: New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) passed the one million mark; and Mario Kart 7 (3DS) passed the six million mark.

Xbox 360 sales are up 1,807 (2%) to 100,567 units sold. The Wii sold 58,108 units, which is down 868 (-1%). The Vita sold 36,786 which is up 1,100 (3%) compared to last week. The PSP is down 257 (-1%) to 34,659 units sold. The DS is down just 27 (-0%) to 29,492 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 37,125 (6%) to 632,750.
Year on year sales are down across the board. The PlayStation 3 is down 67,782 (-34%), the Wii is down 66,849 (-53%), and the Xbox 360 is down 29,332 (-23%). The PSP is down 96,038 (-73%) the DS is down 81,761 (-73%) and the 3DS is down 78,748 (-25%). Year on year sales are down 383,724 (-38%).
Xbox 360 sales have increased for two weeks, PlayStation 3 for one week, while the Wii has decreased for two weeks. The PlayStation 3 has led every week this year and the Xbox 360 has been in second every week, except for the week ending January 7. The PlayStation 3 has a 45 percent market share; the Xbox 360 has a 35 percent market share; and the Wii has a 20 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3 and Wii are up, and the Xbox 360 is down.
The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by more than 8 to 1, while the Vita barely outsold its predecessor, the PSP. The PSP has a 54 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the DS has a 46 percent. The 3DS has an 87 percent market share for the next generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 13 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS is up while the Vita, DS and PSP are down.

London 2012: The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games (X360) is at number nine with sales of 42,987. London 2012: The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games (PS3) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 42,304.
Week on week software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, and 3DS, and are down for the DS, PSP, and Vita. The PlayStation 3 sold 1.60 million games, an increase of 235,002 (17%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.55 million games this week, an increase of 317,445 (26%). Wii software sales are up 35,907 (4%) to 963,549. The 3DS sold 733,748 games, which is up 116,706 (19%). The DS sold 605,398 games, a decrease of 4,855 (-1%). PSP game sales are down 24,022 (-8%) to 267,586 games sold. The Vita sold 91,441 games, a decrease of 1,807 (-2%). Total combined software is up 674,376 (13%) week on week to 5.85 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and 3DS, and are down for the Wii, DS, and PSP. The PlayStation 3 is up 731,051 (84%), the Wii is down 220,771 (-18%) and the Xbox 360 is up 761,952 (96%). The DS is down 153,731 (-20%), the PSP is down 152,957 (-36%) and the 3DS is up 388,864 (113%). Total combined software is up 1.45 million (33%) games sold year on year.
All three handhelds have increased this week. The PlayStation 3 has lead for the last 13 weeks. The PlayStation 3 has a 37 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with 39 percent, and the Wii with 24 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all three home consoles are up.
The 3DS has led for a fourth straight, while the DS has led for seven of the past 11 weeks. The DS has a 69 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 31 percent market share. The 3DS has an 89 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS, DS, and PSP are up, while the Vita is down.
