Pokemon Black / White Sells 1.4m Units in the Americas Day 1 - News

Nintendo's latest entry in the Pokemon series, which had an enormous opening in Japan last Fall, has launched to similarly enormous sales in the Americas. VGC data shows the title, across both the Black and White skus, selling 1.4m units day one in the Americas. Figures include DSi systems that were bundled with Pokemon Black / White.

As Pokemon Black / White has sold to over 15% of the 32m strong DS base in Japan, similar penetration in the Americas could result in sales of 7-8m units, if not more, in the Americas. In a mere day of sales however, Pokemon Black / White is already the 12th highest opening of all time in the Americas. Once full week figures come in, Pokemon Black / White should be amongst the top nine openings of all time in the Americas.

VGChartz will have more on Pokemon in the coming days and weeks as more figures become available.

@dsage01 their the same game come on.

Veit (on 08 March 2011)

dsage01: Call of Duty and Halo always has several special editions. So it's absolutely fair to count BW as one game, otherwise you have to split Call of Duty's and Halo's special editions too.

Gotta effin catch em' all.

dsage01 (on 07 March 2011)

cromeros (on 07 March 2011)

Me too... Excelent sales!!!... 1.4 in the Americas or only USA???... Remember, Pokémon Red / Blue / Green departed selling much less than that and eventually reached more than 32 million units ...

Diamond/Pearl opened to 1.36 million week 1 and ended up selling 6 million in Americas. Black/White opened to 50% stronger sales in Japan, lets hope it get's the same attach rate here. Already this is the biggest opening Pokemon in Japan. I hope this dethrowns Super Mario Bros as the biggest DS game of all time.

NotStan (on 07 March 2011)

Well, shit son. Pokémon is on par with crack!

Attoyou (on 07 March 2011)

Conegamer (on 07 March 2011)

Awesome. But too low IMO

SmokedHostage (on 07 March 2011)

I contributed to (2) of those 1.4 M as well.

Nintendogamer (on 07 March 2011)

SO we could see a lift in DS numbers then, despite 3DS release so soon, DS is doing great numbers!

Pineapple (on 07 March 2011)

For a comparison, Diamond/Pearl sold 1.362 million in its first 6 days of sale in Americas. Pokemon Platinum sold 725k in its first 6 days of sale, and Heart Gold/Soul Silver sold 1.032 million in its first 6 days. Black and White should thereby substantially beat the record of any previous Pokemon game for first week, which isn't that shocking really.

Euphoria14 (on 07 March 2011)

I contributed to (2) of those 1.4M. :-)

dsage01 (on 07 March 2011)

wow this is 2 games!! why do people count it as one?

Light (on 07 March 2011)

so the only people that got the game are the people that preordered it :S 1.4 sounds like ballshit to me..

spurgeonryan (on 07 March 2011)

Yeah so pathetic.....wait a second

Immortal (on 07 March 2011)

It has a whole week of data, though. I'd expect it to be about 2m, if not more. This sounds pathetic, :O.

Boutros (on 07 March 2011)

That's great but I don't think it will outsell Pokémon Diamond/Pearl. I say 6 million.

zgamer5 (on 07 March 2011)

so other then preorders it had no one day buys?
