gamrPreview: 20 Most Anticipated PC Games of 2011 - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 03 January 2011 / 28,249 ViewsEvery year, it seems like gaming gets bigger and better. Huge release after huge release are always demanding our gaming dollars and we gladly ante up the cash for the next great gaming experience. 2011 is looking no different. This week, we're bringing you our most anticipated games for 2011.
First up is PC. Let me tell you, narrowing it down to only 20 was a tall order. In purely alphabetical order, here we go:

TBA 2011
Age of Empires is a long-standing staple in the real-time strategy (RTS) games community. Debuting in 1997, the series quickly became popular and has stayed that way, though the last release was over three years ago with Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties. Age of Empires Online is scheduled for sometime in 2011 and will do its best to blend the RTS aspects that make it great with aspects from the popular massively multiplayer online (MMO) genre. Cities will exists and thrive (or die) even when you're aren't logged on. Build your empire sometime this year.

Q4 2011
American McGee's Alice was a sleeper hit back in 2000. The game took place after the events of the books "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass". It takes a more macabre, adult view of the classic Lewis Carroll classics. Now more than 10 years later, American McGee is finally getting us a sequel. Eleven years have passed and Alice is returning to Wonderland, but her deranged mental state is affecting this fantasy world yet again. Go down the rabbit hole once more in the fourth quarter of 2011.

February 22
Don't worry, new and original intellectual properties, I'm not forgetting about you. Epic Games and People Can Fly are getting ready to bring usBulletstorm. Bulletstorm is a first person shooter that takes the genre and cranks it up to eleven...or twelve...or three-hundred fifty-eight.Bulletstorm is over-the-top, points-riddled FPS madness where the goal is to spend more time finding creative ways to take out your enemies than worrying about precision headshots. Rack 'em up and knock 'em down February 22.

March 22 (NA), March 25 (EU)
The original Crysis was a cool sci-fi shooter probably known better for how difficult it was to run the game at maximum settings than it was beating it on the hardest difficulty settings. It truly pushed the upper limits of existing hardware and made for one incredibly pretty game.Crysis 2 promises to keep up the super-pretty graphics, but their development of the Cryengine promises to make the game easier to run for the less-crazy PC gamers. Set into the future in late March.

January 11 (NA), January 14 (UK)
Because I haven't written enough about this game, right? The upcoming massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) from Sony Online Entertainment and DC Entertainment brings the characters and settings of the DC Comics Universe right to your PC next week. Choose a hero or a villain as you attempt to save the DC Universe from Brainiac's maniacal plans and fight against and alongside your favorite characters from the DC Universe.

January 25
Dead Space proved developers can still make scary survival-horror games in the shooter genre. While other survival horror staples had long-since lost their scare factor, Dead Space put us aboard the spaceship Ishimura with a bunch of Necromorphs that had to be dismembered in order to be killed. Nothing like running backwards while you drain your last few rounds into the hips of a rushing enemy. Dead Space 2 brings us all this with more Necromorphs, more of Isaac Clark's mental instabilities, and multiplayer on January 25.

TBA 2011
The original Defense of the Ancients had such humble beginnings, it was a mod for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. This unofficial game scenario has stayed in constant development and updates through the community since 2003. Sometime this year, Valve will be releasingDefense of the Ancients 2, a standalone game based on the concepts and even using some of the community developers of the originalDefense of the Ancients. Look for it sometime this year.

April 2011 or later
Despite the high-fantasy capability of video game technology, there is a surprising void where cyberpunk fiction should be. Deus Ex looks to fill that void a little with Human Revolution. It will be the third game in the franchise, though a prequel to the previous releases and the first in the HD generation of graphics. Deus Ex: Human Revolution has featured some of the prettiest trailers and promising gameplay, but has recently suffered a potentially large delay from Q1 2011 to "sometime April 2011 or later."

Q4 2011 (unconfirmed)
So many things make this a huge game. It's from Blizzard. It's called Diablo. Every trailer has shown this sequel to be everything we love about the first two games with so much more, except no town portals. The Diablo franchise set the bar for dungeon crawlers and looks to raise it even higher with Diablo III. Begin again the unending quest for perpetually better stuff in the fourth quarter of 2011 (maybe).

March 8 (NA), March 11 (EU)
BioWare has been on a tear in recent years. Dragon Age: Origins and the Mass Effect franchise have garnered them critical and commercial success as well as multiple Game of the Year awards. They're set to do it again with Dragon Age II. While BioWare makes good console games, it's no secret the PC versions are better and Dragon Age II is likely to continue that tradition as you guide one man through his rise to power. In classic BioWare tradition, decisions made in the first Dragon Age as well as the Awakenings expansion can carry over into Dragon Age II. Get medieval in early March.

June 7
No, this isn't a joke. No, you're not dreaming. Gearbox Software, the guys and gals responsible for Borderlands, are bringing Duke Nukemback after 14 years in development hell. Not much is known about the new Duke so far, but you can rest assured it will be a shooter, Duke Nukem will have a foul mouth and a black sense of humor, and if Borderlands is any indications, it will be brilliant. Get back in the saddle sometime this year.

November 11
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion was a huge commercial and critical success for Bethesda Softworks, but they've been more focused on their Falloutproperties as of late. Now they're heading back into the realms of fantasy with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The game is abandoning the aging Gamebryo engine for a new internally developed engine that is being built from the ground up. First-person fantasy roleplaying: welcome back November 11.
Everquest II: Destiny of Velious

February 8
It may not have 12 million subscribers, but Everquest has actually been up and running longer than Blizzard's MMORPG juggernaut and any expansion to Everquest 2 is nothing to scoff at. Destiny of Velious will feature tons of new quests, items, and weapons. It will also introduce flying mounts, new instances, heritage quests, and loads of other new content for the Everquest faithful. Head to Velious February 8.

March 2011
Might and Magic Heroes VI looks to blur the lines between the Heroes of Might and Magic and Might and Magic franchises more than ever before, hence the slight change of name. The game looks to blend the elements real-time strategy and role-playing. You choose your hero to guide through the game, choosing what abilities you would like to focus on and really guiding your hero more than ever before. Choose might or magic in March.

April 18 (NA), April 22 (EU/AUS)
Portal is one of Valve's marquee properties, released to little initial fanfare but gaining a huge fanbase since its launch in 2007, spinning out of a completely independent game called Narbacular Drop. Who would have thought combining first-person shooter mechanics in a puzzle game would be so fantastic, but when you throw in the companion cube and cake, it's a winning combination. Warp your brain with Portal 2 in April.

September 13 (NA), September 15 (EU), September 16 (AUS)
Post-apocalyptic shooters do seem to be all the "rage" these days. Haha...sorry. Following in the footsteps of such great games as Fallout 3and Borderlands, Rage takes place on a shattered world that looks to blend shooter and RPG elements with a big dose of car combat. The game looks to take cues from Motorstorm and Burnout in terms of racing, though it promises to focus on the shooting elements as the core of the game. Get your Rage on in September.

Early 2011
If you're a fan of this site, you've surely heard of RIFT when we gave away thousands of beta codes. RIFT is the upcoming MMORPG from Trion Worlds that is trying to put World of Warcraft and Everquest on their heels. The game has been in development for over two years and has undergone extensive alpha and beta testing, so far to very exciting results. Jump into the new world of RIFT early this year.

Middle 2011
In a year crowded with MMORPG's, BioWare is throwing their hat in the ring with Star Wars: The Old Republic. BioWare had smashing success with the Knights of the Old Republic series and are returning to the Star Wars universe with The Old Republic. Star Wars has been well-fit for an MMORPG setup from the very beginning and BioWare is probably LucasArts' best chance for getting it done right. Join the Sith or Galactic Republic sometime in the second or third quarter of 2011.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

May 17
The Witcher is one of those few old-school, thoroughbred roleplaying games. It's based on a Polish fantasy book series and was launched to high critical praise. Now it's time for a sequel. The game will feature a brand new engine rather than BioWare's Aurora engine, but will retain the delayed consequences system so popular in the original. Get The Witcher 2 on May 17.
Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II - Retribution

March 2011
Warhammer has been around for a very long time. Warhammer 40K has been around for a long - though not nearly as long - time. The games have also had a long and successful history. Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II - Retribution will be the second stand-alone expansion forDawn of War II. While the game has previously only allowed Space Marines as a playable race in campaigns, this expansion will introduce three more playable races. It will also reintroduce base building as well as four distinct campaigns. Have your Retribution in March.
And there you are. What are your most anticipated PC games for 2011? What did I miss?

Mass Effect 3 is not for PC this year?
I'm impressed PC.
After feeling left in the cold for almost a decade, I feel like there's actually five or more big titles coming this year that I'm interested in.

wht happened to Huxley; or did i miss sonething?
Where is Battlefield 3? Well... meh, I suppose technically it hasn't been announced yet, so I can see why it doesn't qualify for the list
How the hell could Shogun 2 not be there ?!?!?
Diablo 3 will destroy any of these games listed.
If you were hardcore in Diablo 2 you will not hesitate to agree with me.
Great list of games, although my list would be slightly different. Guild Wars 2 would be on and a little game called E.Y.E that looks to be heavily influenced by Deus Ex.
No Shogun? list Fail
And Microsoft Flight?
Where is Guild Wars 2??
Holy **** where is Guild Wars 2?! That has got to be above some of these games. I haven't even heard of several of them.
It's a shame that we won't have so many point-and-click adventures in 2011...

Diablo 3 will not be out in 2011
Put Starcraft 2 heart of swarm instead

Reader's choice for most anticipated PC game of 2011 didn't make the list? Bring Guild Wars 2!
@kivi95: Actually there was a leak of Blizzard games' release dates, and that's where I believe the Diablo III date originates from. It's pretty unofficial but that's to be expected.
og and where is Battlefield 3? Diablo has no relase date and it cam in to the list so why not battlefield 3 too?
Their is 2 games that i want on that list, Might of magic heroes VI and Diablo 3 the rest are meh for me or buying them on ps3.
I have lost faith in HoMM after the dissapointing V. I hope they go back to my beloved IV's style.
Also, Skyrim better be closer to Morrowind than the casualized Oblivion; and NO SCALING!!!
Skyrim will make all of these look like indie games.
Just sayin.
Hope my PC can handle all these...except crysis of course.
why is duke nuken for june 7th? I think they never announced the release date.
