Capcom Won't Refrain From Developing Wii Games - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 07 January 2010 / 3,660 Views

Capcom Europe stepped up today to nulify the harsh words said by Antoine Seux, "Directeur Général" of Capcom France. Antoine talked about how Capcom should focus on HD consoles development, by saying things such as "The Wii console is very much a family commitment… for us, Capcom, the future is the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360”, after disappointing sales of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.

Capcom Europe cleaned the mess by stating: "Further to comments made in a recent article on French website Gamekult, Capcom would like to confirm its commitment as a multi-platform developer and publisher of interactive software."

Such words surely brought happiness to Wii owners all around the world.

Totally agree besides TvC (a low investment btw) and MH3 (a bigger investment) Capcom like Konami really hasn't released a high quality AAA game on the Wii so far. All their big guns/investments are being served on the HD platform( I don't mind cuz they do make awesome HD games) using profit they earned from their average(RE:DS, RE: UC, Spyborgs) to mediocre (zak and wiki, RE:archives, Dead Rising:CtyD). Which I think is morally wrong but at least they sometimes give poor Wii owners average and great titles unlike Ubisoft which releases nothing but crap (NMH is not Ubisoft) Petz, Imaginez, Red Steel, dumbed down FarCry!!!

LordTheNightKnight

yet world at war sold a million in a half

The French guy spilled the beans, we already know that the big guns will be heading towards the HD consoles in the future.

"since when was Darkside chronicles a flop? it just released for god sakes.. give it time capcom."

World at War was a flop around the same timeframe. No More Heroes is still a flop despite the sequel and being Suda's biggest hit.

Metallicube (on 07 January 2010)

That was a very dumb statement to make by Capcom of France, who basically just gave the middle finger to a user base that is nearing 65 million. I'm glad Capcom of Europe realized this and retracted it, but they still need to make this statement by better games. Zack and Wiki was a good start. How about a true Resident Evil game for Wii instead of yet another on rail shooter?

Wii Fans to Capcom: No thanks, we don't want your games

Thats the spirit! Why keep licking their balls if all they are giving us are crappy ports and light gun games? And no more Oh! I like light gun games! Fine, but not in detriment (nice word) of real Resident Evil games. Besides, I bought Wii on the promise of revolutionary games. light gun games are hardly revolutionary so please, Capcom, fuck you and your games. To be honest with all of you, Sega, Konami... all of them, they can all get their crap software and burn in hell. I'm a gamer. I'm not a retarded. I want games. Sick of those companies and their subpar products and they come and say Oh... you're not getting more games from us. Like they released mountains and mountains of software so get your crap and GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!!

Antoine Seux must have been punished by his bosses at Capcom.

as much as he speaks of the wii being famly friendly I can see darkside chronicles doing much better than zak and wiki and spyborgs. if darkside chronciles cannot outsell overkill than clearly the problem is not lack of audience.

This statement was probably smart for capcom. Not good to have a PR man telloing the world capcom s gunna stick with PS360 at the same time your telling the world about your strong relationship with nintendo

Zucas was right, they did have to correct themselves.
If Capcom agreed with those sentiments, said by the France branch, they would not have had to do this. That "we're dropping support" statement really puts them in a bad position with Nintendo, who is supposed to be a big part in helping Capcom expand its most recent blockbuster franchise (Monster Hunter) in the West.

just give us RE5 or SFIV instead of spin-offs and we forgive you : P

btw, i feel that Darkside Chronicles will sell, just needs its time

Like many, I'm just not convinced that Capcom has ever brought forth their A-game for the Wii yet. The lone exception is the AAA title MH3, but it's been delayed again.

3 years! Wii has 3 years and all we get from Capcom is a bunch of ports, a game featuring a pirate kid with a serious sugar addiction that's nothing more than a point and click game and rail shooters. I want to buy games, not a big developer name stamped on a box. In other words, 3 years and crap? F U Capcom! 3 years is a long time for crappy support. I don't care if it is Capcom. If all a company has to offer is crap you can go to hell. I'm sick of all that crap companies are throwing at us. I'm sick of ports! I'm sick of on rails shooters so if thats what Capcom has to offer then they can go F themselves.

Screw Capcom. Honestly. Zak and Wikki (pedia?), a GC port of RE4, Dead Rising (port #2), Okami (port #3), 2 RE on rails shooter (enough), Monster-my-camera-sucks-so-much-thats-essencial-to-hide-crappy-gameplay-Hunter 3. I mean quit. Just stop making things and start making games. Otherwise F Off! Nintendo players should stop being so passive. Just say: Screw you, Capcom, and all that crappy support. It is not that hard.

We can't just write Capcom off, they have been trying. Ok it might not seem like the best work but hell they did go all out for MH3. Granted the Western version will be more polished than the Japanese one ( no surprise).

What Capcom needs to do is bring a 3rd person RE on the system and let the rail shooter stand as a side game for the casual gamers that are to lazy to actual play.

I've loved Capcom since MM2 and I will be the first to say they have done us wrong with some games but at least they aren't giving us CATS, BABYZ BS ETC, am I right...

i do not think that they can ignore the size of the wii crowd.but i think that they need to work a lot at advertizing their games better.

just as I expected.
The French can be brutally true to you .
I think Antoine Seux, "Directeur Général" of Capcom France press release was a rapier sharp poke to Nintendo.

lol, "mulit-platform" most likely means capcom will bring games to the wii but certainly does nothing to appease wii owners that the releases will be either numerous or of any quality.

Hey at least Monster hunter 3 sold well and most likely will do well in Americas. I'm glad the peices have been put back together after Capcom Europe :)

LoL Salnax. It is funny to me that Bionic Commando gets brushed under the bridge like it didn't happen (though the studio was closed due to it being a major bomb) And no one comes out against developing for HD consoles. But Wii is somehow under a larger microscope.

But any way, no matter how you cut it over 65m installed base is hard to ignore and dumb to ignore especially during this tough economic times.

  • 0
Salnax (on 07 January 2010)

Capcom would be pretty silly to abandon development for the Wii. 3 of its top 10 games of 2009 are Wii games, including the "disappointing" Darkside Chronicles, which beat any version of Bionic Commando and any Mega Man game.

RE 6, virus has spread to major cities like LA, Detroid, NYC, Miami... true to life maps of the cities. Picture RE in a True Crime:LA setting. That'd be awesome.

poor sales? The game has hardly been out? And most people know that wii game get their large sales over the long run and not from their initial release like most games.

@ gigaSheik
Capcom isn't actually a company developing or publishing family games. You can take a look here: http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=&console=Wii&publisher=62&genre=&minSales=0&results=50&sort=Total

  • 0
Vas-y (on 07 January 2010)

For me 'multi-platform' means all consoles when nothing else is added to this term.

So Capcom, Okami 2 for Wii nao?

  • 0
gigaSheik (on 07 January 2010)

Happiness? For what? Family games? Great support... Capcom can get their family games and shove'em right up! And shove your on rail shooters as well.

  • 0
wfz (on 07 January 2010)

They never actually commented about the Wii in this new update. They only said "Multi-platform" which could easily mean 360 and PS3. What you quoted wasn't enough, assuming he said more. I'm confused.

I wonder if this clarification will get as much play on the Interweb as the original comments.

It always seems as if bad news makes more news (especially about the Wii).

wow, Capcom France probably got in really big trouble if Capcom Europe put out a statement.

  • 0
Gamerace (on 07 January 2010)

No surprise there really. Wii has a market too big to ignore. Only question is what will they bring to it in future?

In the meantime I'm looking forward to TvsC and MH3

  • 0
famousringo (on 07 January 2010)

LOL, I was really worried, nay, paralyzed with dread that Capcom might be taking orders from their French office.

You ever wonder what happens to the careers of the schmucks who make these PR gaffes? It's not a good thing when the company has to release a public statement that they're sorry you blow so much hot air.
