This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Wii.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the Nintendo Wii launched in November 2006. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

At this point, it seems pretty unlikely that the PS5 will catch up to the Switch again but it's certainly not impossible.

The Wii was the Usain Bolt of consoles.

There is chances PS5 will make a comeback, though it is hard to tell with Sony's current attitude and Microsoft's strong competition. But a console generation is pretty long and anything can happen.

seems like Sony's costs increased and they prefer to make less consoles now rather than pay more

Looking at the current gap it's hard to believe that PS5 will ever catch up Wii again. PS4 managed it in month 65: https://www.vgchartz.com/article/441110/ps4-vs-wii-ndash-vgchartz-gap-charts-ndash-september-2019/

Nintendo Wii have bad legs because nintendo focus in the new generation and four pipelines hurt more Wii than DS: DS have a good third party support.
