Metal Gear Solid V's Xbox 360 and PS3 Online Servers to Shutdown - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 September 2021 / 1,436 ViewsKonami in an update on its website announced it will be shutting down the servers for the the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in 2022.
The first step has already occurred, which is the termination of the game’s purchasing system. On November 30, DLC for Metal Gear Online will no longer be available to buy. On March 1, 2022 the game will no longer be available to purchase on the Xbox 360 and PS3 digital stores. The servers themselves will be shutdown on May 31, 2022.
While the online service will be shutdown on May 31, 2022, the main game will still be playable offline.

I actually bought and played this on the PS3. Don't really cared for the online but it was on for several years so people shouldn't have too much to complain.
Didn't get a lot of attention, but this was an impressive cross gen game.
Don't understand the decision to remove it from digital distribution stores, you can still buy this on the Xbox Series X for example...
Maybe a rights issue? Any licensed content in there, such as music, that they'd like to stop paying the rights to?
It sucks that they set up their own matchmaking servers. XB360 games that used Microsoft's matchmaking servers all still work, even if the publisher abandons the game.
