Ghost of Tsushima Outsells Paper Mario to Top the UK Charts

Ghost of Tsushima Outsells Paper Mario to Top the UK Charts - Sales

by William D'Angelo , posted on 19 July 2020 / 4,294 Views

The PlayStation 4 exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima, has debuted at the top of the UK charts, according to GfK for the week ending July 18, 2020. The game didn't come close to the opening of The Last of Us Part II, however, it did sell seven percent better than the launch 2019's Days Gone.

Paper Mario: The Origami King debuted in second place. However, sales were far lower than Ghost of Tsushima, which sold four times better. Launch week sales are still better than the first week of the last two Paper Mario games combined, 2016's Paper Mario: Color Splash (WiiU) and 2012's Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS).

Paper Mario: The Origami King did beat out 2007's Super Paper Mario, which makes it the fastest-selling Paper Mario game to date. It should be noted that Nintendo does not provide digital sales for their games.

F1 2020 after debuting in first last week falls to third place as sales dropped 59 percent. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is in fourth and The Last of Us Part II are in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Not surprised. But the fact that Animal Crossing is doing better than TLOU2 which recently released.....

I'm mostly happy when a Nintendo game performs that good and it will keep doing that for a good while i do think.

Eeerrr both recently released

I'm noticing a connection forming here, in that any mere mention of Ninty doing good in this article, is instantly met with downvotes, and then commentary from the same person, who commented on mine, which also had negative downvotes, hmm.

@DonFerrari AC came out at March 20. Today is July 20. Almost 4 months since the track week of this article.

AC: one of the most casual games ever made beating an action adventure game that received a lot of hate (without reason).
Yeah, Shocking!!!!

@Kazuyamishima I was surprised because I expected TLOU2 to have better legs than AC in the UK for the next few weeks. But the fact it already fell behind AC shows how powerful AC is in a country like the UK.

AC is a much stronger brand than TLOU.

Well a big install base with less major exclusives. If you buy a switch, you will are most likely going to buy a game like animal crossing.

Not really off topic, when it's clearly there on the top 10 list, unless you want to warp the subject to your own preferred liking?.

I remember how that "TLOU 2 beats ACNH" sales thread, and how that went, I think it's fair AC gets it's kudos for beating it out in the recent listing, rather than weeping it under the rug as "off topic".

It's there, the top spot seems to matter to some of ya'll, thus the rest of the 9 should matter to ya'll just as much.

You are right indeed,my comment was offtopic instead of his.Need to look better before i comment next time.

And my preferred game of those 2 is the one from Nintendo so you can stop putting me in that box.

Curious is MK8D also beats it when digital is factored in

Chazore YanisFromFrance (on 19 July 2020)

I was never going to put you into any box. I just find it odd how any mention of Ninty actually managing to surpass a Sony game, that had shortly done so before them, is met with a downvote, instead of an upvote, because it is objectively true, as by that chart, AC has passed TLOU2 now, so it should be praise right off the bat.

  • +1

@Chazore For your interest i gave YanisFromFrance 4 upvotes, and never that initial downvote so you seem to be making connections that do not exist, stop that please and no need to link anything i say with ''preferred'' like i'm a fanboy.

DonFerrari (on 19 July 2020)

Well paper mario isn't a Major IP yet, and GoT is a fantastic game so deserved the sales (4x over Paper Mario is still very big), and no one was expecting it to surpass TLOU2 even more launching a month after.

Chazore (on 19 July 2020)

Oh hey, that other exclusive that beat another Ninty exclusive, itself was beaten by that same Nintendo exclusive...

Next week "Sony exclusive CLAWS it's way to the top of the chartz"

I get that these are updates, but they feel like lil camp "vs" threads, almost as if it's typed that way on purpose.

But you seem to think like someone that makes such a thread, with such a comment.

Chazore Chazore (on 19 July 2020)

I guess two people are ruffled by my comment at the end of the day. I'm not even remotely ruffled, justa bit bored of seeing the back and forth, because I see it as completely pointless tit for tat, because I know we're not middle or late aged business men, who should really care about top 10 sales.

  • -2
Immersiveunreality Chazore (on 19 July 2020)

Not at all,was just wondering why you did put that comment so out of place, this site has been comparing games since forever and i found it strange you made that connection.

  • +1
DonFerrari Chazore (on 19 July 2020)

So people that replied to your post are ruffled, but you that needed to point it isn't, curious.

  • +4
Chazore Chazore (on 19 July 2020)

I meant that they were clearly ruffled by my comment, instead of implying I was the one who was ruffled.

I'm well aware of sales numbers being compered, but this is more a "top 10" sort of spot, as evident by the numbering, rather than non numbering and just plain sales numbers.

  • -1
Immersiveunreality Chazore (on 19 July 2020)

@Chazore Again since you did not seem to have read the above comment, not at all.
What i commented was an observation on your initial comment,no need to keep having vindictive reasoning.

JWeinCom Chazore (on 19 July 2020)

It's a top ten sales list... so people who click on it will be interested in the top ten selling games... and they're going to most likely be interested in the performance of the new releases.

If you're coming into the comments section of an article about top ten sales to tell people they shouldn't care about top ten sales... then... you probably should just... not do that. Let the people who do care discuss it, and move on.
