Sony Tells Devs New PS4 Games Certified After July 13 Must Also Run on PS5 - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 07 July 2020 / 2,140 ViewsSony Interactive Entertainment has told developers that PlayStation 4 games that are certified on July 13 or later must also be compatible with Sony's upcoming next generation console, the PlayStation 5.This would mean every game released for the PS4 starting on July 13 would be forward compatible on the PS5.
Documentation on PlayStation’s internal Partner website has details on an option developer have to check to state their games have been tested for compatibility with the PS5. This was added at the end of April in a new version of PS4's software developer kit.
Sony will be contacting developers individually with details on how they can test PS5 compatibility in order of release. A game will be compatible on the PS5 if it runs without any issues and provides the same features on the PS5 as it does the PS4.
Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan announced the company will be hosting a PlayStation 5 event on June 4 at 1pm PDT / 4pm EDT / 9pm BST. It will be streamed on Twitch and YouTube. The digital event will be just over and hour in length and feature a first look at games in development for the next generation console.

Considering almost all already released games were already working this is a no brainer.
good move
Well that answers a question I had. I've been curious if all upcoming games will work on BC. On Playstation it appears yes, maybe the same is happening for Xbox.
From Xbox one report had that they expect more than 90% of the already released titles to work fine and with improvements on XSX, so for new titles yes 100% is very likely.
Pretty much confirms they’re going to have their own version of smart delivery.
No, it seems this just means upcoming PS4 games need to work with PS5's BC.
From my understanding Smart Delivery is a just a marketing term for you get 8th and 9th gen versions of Xbox games with a single purchase. Given games likely have be developed for Series X to take full advantage of it.
