Rumor: Metroid Prime Trilogy HD and Super Metroid Remake in Development for Switch - News

Fans of the Metroid series have been waiting for quite sometime for Metroid Prime 4. The game is still far off, however, it appears two entries in the series are coming to the Nintendo Switch, according to a new rumor.

Twitter user LeakyPandy says Nintendo is planning to release two new Metroid games in the next two fiscal years for the Nintendo Switch. One game is a re-release of Metroid Prime Trilogy in HD and the other is a remake of Super Metroid.

Same with me, and although I've had chances to buy the trilogy on Wii for a decent price, I've held out for an updated Switch version.

IMO, Prime 1 doesn't hold up well. I haven't played the others, so I can't say.

Also Nintendo, let Next Level Games do the remake to Super Metroid. Their work on Luigi`s Mansion 3 is second to none right now on Switch, if anyone can do the game justice its definitely them.

Given the federation force they made, i've lost faith in them. They were a good till they made that stuff.

It would be dumb not to. The last Metroid Prime game was 2 consoles ago.

I mean MPTHD was a given tbh they are old games and remaking it will help the sales. I'm sure the Metroid franchise can get a big boost of recognition on the Switch seeing how everything is selling so well. The remake of Super Metroid is a good idea as well. Glad they aren't giving up on the franchise. That gives me hope for Kid Icarus and Eternal darkness.

O would love to replay and re explore again such great gems. To listen again to the music, to appreciate the details the environment... maybe they can add some new stuff??

That actually sounds like a plausible rumour. Nintendo hasn't shown much for Switchs 2020 yet, and these two games would actually be good to build up the library. Remakes do well on Switch, and as WiiUs library is mostly done it seems only prudent to look at Wii or further back. So a Prime Trilogy could be done in th smae way Xenoblade Chronicles is remade, while Samus Returns is actually a great blueprint for Super Metroid.

Good god.... I would love the prime trilogy. But a super metroid remake? Oh my god. Please, please let that be true.

Super Metroid doesn't need a remake.

somehow that super metroid game might be a double edged weapon. We've seen with that remake of metroid 2 that people are not really interested in remakes. Moreover, taking in consideration the fact that supermetroid in one of the best games ever created in video games' history will high up the expectations and put more pressure on nintendo and the cocerned studio to meet those expectations and do at least something as good as the SNES version did back in the days.
If this remake fails,it will only rub more salt in the wound and lead to the death of the 2D metroid for real.
In fact making a new 2D game would have been more judicious IMO.

The remake of Metroid 2 was just on the wrong system and should have been on Switch!

Also, if the MPTHD rumor is true, it's pretty obvious they'd be doing it to tide people over, since their brilliant plan of making MP4 by themselves, with next to zero FPS style game dev. experience, failed hard, and they had to hand it back over to Retro to basically start from scratch.

Oh good. Giving Super Metroid "the Samus Returns treatment", aka "remaking it as a clunky, fugly looking 2.5D polygonal game for no reason". And it'll probably be Mercury Steam doing it again, I'd bet. No thanks.

I'd be interested if they'd remake it as a gorgeous hand-drawn 2D game. In fact I've wanted a NEW Metroid game in that style forever. But that's likely never going to happen, because Nintendo.

Would be awesome if both rumors are true! :D

Though I had been gaming since ~1982, Super Metroid was probably my first "favorite" game. I was old enough to really get into it, and it was great. I have fond memories. I'd be happy to play a remake.

(Pitfall may have been the first game I called my favorite. But, I was only a couple years old when that came out, and I don't know that I ever made it past the third stage.

At the bare minimum Nintendo please, please give the Metroid Prime Trilogy HD the Windwaker HD treament on WiiU to give the games a visual update. We have heard rumors of these games coming for quite some time now, but I hope its not just a regular port.

Grezzo revamped the visuals on Windwaker HD in 6 months, so please do something more than just a port! These are my favorite Metroid games of all time and doing it right will only increase anticipation for Metroid Prime 4.

I kind of hope Super Metroid uses sprites instead of polygons, but I'll buy it either way.

I'd only play Prime with updated controls. I can't stand that weird setup used in the original.
