Destiny Sales Top 7 Million Units Worldwide - News

Bungie's first title since leaving Microsoft, Destiny, has been a huge success since it hit store shelves in September. The game sold more than $325 million worth of units in its first five days and topped five million units sold in just two weeks. Destiny has said a record for the biggest opening for a new IP.

Destiny has hit a new milestone selling more than seven million units combined across all platforms in just seven weeks. In total the game has sold 7.14 million units. The PlayStation 4 is the top platform with 3.48 million units sold, followed by the Xbox One with 1.90 million units sold.

The last generation consoles has lagged behind in sales figures for the game. Neither version has topped one million units sold, though the Xbox 360 version will hit the figure in a week. The Xbox 360 version has sold 988,089 units, while the PlayStation 3 version has sold 778,009 units.

Earlier this week Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg announced that there has been more than 9.5 million registered users, however many people have registered multiple characters. Also a sequel to the game is already in development.

Destiny had a global launch on September 9th. The game is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

Destiny wasn't terrible, just disappointing. Its an easy game to get hooked on but in the end its not a satisfying product and feels like untapped potential.

Overall the game is great, but not stunning awesome like it was advertised, is just a good game, you get alot of gameplay for your $64.11 dlls so I have no complaints , most of the time I spend on getting more gear and trying to get to level 30. For the first time I may get the DLC on december. A lot people complaint about the repetitiveness but hey nobody complaints about a Mario Kart you only do racing all the freaking time, or a COD run and gun the whole freaking time. ;)

Huh? Users =/= characters

I have played this game a LOT, and I continue to crave more playtime, but after having spent so much time in the game, I see a lot of holes in the game design and the way Bungie is managing events/community and patch priorities. It makes sense to me some people get very negative on this game because they saw these things earlier/faster than me and they fail to see any of the positive that I (and others) continue to enjoy regardless.

Will it get better? I wish I could say with confidence that all their post-release moves are hitting their mark, but they really haven't. They also fail to fix actual bugs, and keep dinking around with things that aren't affecting actual gameplay, which is fine but I think they should prioritize bug fixes, and community requested features over stroking their own egos as poor game designers that have made an entire game that can be cheesed (as the best way to play most of the time).

I'd say that I hate the game but I have played 90 hours and was literally obsessed with it for 6 weeks

Destiny is a big disappointment. I was expecting an epic story and got a half backed and morsel of a story. It's not my kind of game. I wasted $60. Never again.

some people were expecting Destiny to be a multiplat similar to halo and were disappointment when they found out it wasn't, funny how a lot of people who haven't played it call it garbage!

Fantastic sales for a new IP with a 10 year life cycle in the works for it.

They already confirmed work on the second game in the series. If you think that Activision - THE Activision - is going to keep a game in the oven for almost a decade, you are going to be disappointed. And if you expect any significant support for the first one after the second one launches, you are going to be even more disappointed.

World of Warcraft being run by Blizzard/Activision has just passed its 10 year anniversary, just sayin.

Crap, what just happened? I didn't mean to report that commet! Argh...sorry.

But World of Warcraft has never had a sequel and is a very different type of game. I will eat my hat if Destiny gets 10 years of substantial support.

It's a fun game. I almost never play FPS, but the combination of great controls and gameplay, RPG elements, and a huge scope has kind of got me hooked. I almost never play games online, but strikes are a lot of fun and give a sense of achievement every time you kill off the last boss. The story is quite lacking, but I'm still enjoying it.

Sad to see a game like this be so successful.

Speak for yourself I got in well over 70+ hours in the game. I'm bored of it now but I certainly got my moneys worth.

It's sad to see a game that you don't favor be successful? That's sounds very much like your own problem, bud.

OT: Congrats Destiny and Bungie! Solid foundation now laid. Should pave the way for a stronger sequel that capitalizes on the few mistakes made.
