Destiny Tops 9.5M Registered Users, Destiny 2 in Development - News

Activision has announced that Destiny has hit a new milestone. More than 9.5 million people have registered for the game since it launched. However, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg did add that there are players that have more than one identity, so the figure doesn't quite line up with actual sales of the game.

Activision added that Destiny is the biggest launch for a new IP in gaming gistory. It is also one of the top 10 biggest launches in US history.

"I think by any measure, Destiny is off to a great start," said Hirshberg. "And despite the large investment - or maybe because of that large investment - we were able to be profitable from day one, and we think it's only a matter of time now before it becomes our next billion-dollar franchise."

"work has also begun on future expansion packs as well as on our next full-game release," added Hirshberg. Though he did not provide any more details on the sequel.

So they release a $60 game light on content, then overcharge for the expansion pack which also doesn't add much. They're expecting people to fall for that again? Who am I kidding though, I'm sure it'll sell millions.

Really? Was supposed to be a 10 year project, and now they are just going to turn it into the next CoD or Halo with regular yearly (or bi-yearly) releases?

Or, are they going to say that the expansions are equivalent to mmo updates, and their next release will be a real expansion?

No idea, or are they going to spend 6 more years, making Destiny 2 (turn it into an EQ style franchise), and roll out quality updates in the mean time?

No matter what is true, I don't have a horse in this race.

So they are already developing a sequel to this gaming, when the first game is not even complete yet.

lol, I don't think the hype will push the next one like it did with this one. Especially if they are going to take like a year or so for the next one..... the first one apparently took 10 years..

Hopefully they learn from their mistakes. I can't imagine another Bungie game turning out like this...
