Activision Blizzard has announced that Skylanders has passed $500 million in the US. These figures include Skylanders Spyro's Adventures and Skylanders Giants. Skylanders Spyro's Adventures accounts for $305 million of the total.

"Just a year ago, the concept of bringing toys to life in a virtual world was an untested play pattern that Activision and Toys For Bob believed in," said Joshua Taub, vice president of product management at Activision Publishing. "Now the category has been established in the market and embraced by parents and kids everywhere."

"We’re humbled by the continued support and acclaim from parents, kids and critics alike, but more importantly, it’s gratifying to see kids excited about the adventures that await them both in the digital and physical worlds."

Skylanders is a third person action franchise with a twist. The characters you play as are represented by a figurine that you purchase in stores. These figurines are placed on a peripheral. To change characters, you switch the figurines.

Absolutely great idea for a game today, selling DLC as childrens toys and I have to say the game and characters are very well put together. The tech used in them is pretty cool too, each toy saving it's lvl/stats/equiped items can be lifted right from a PS3 version and dropped right into a Xbox360 game in a second.... the lightcore Figures even use induction power to power lights up through the toy, it's impressive.

Spyro's name isn't even on Skylanders Giants... he is a character which can be used in the games but by no means the mean front character in the game at all.
