Welcome to the ‘Top 10’ weekly feature. Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise.

This week we will be looking at the top 10 bestselling games on the Gameboy Advance. Last week we looked at the top 10 bestselling games in September 2012 and the week before that the top 10 bestselling games on the Gamecube. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10.

Top 10 Selling Gameboy Advance Games

Looking at the top 10 bestselling games on the Gameboy Advance, five of the games were released in 2001, two were released in 2002, one was released in 2003, and two were released in 2004. Five of the games have Mario in the title, while four of those are releases of older games.

The top 10 bestselling games on the Gameboy Advance sold a combined 64.46 million games. Pokémon is the only franchise to have at least one game sell 10 million or more units, Pokémon Ruby / Sapphire and Pokémon FireRed / LeafGreen. Seven of the top 10 games sold five million or more units, while all 10 sold two million or more units.

There is almost no comparison between first party and third party games. Eight of the games are first party, while two are third party. The eight first party games sold a combined 57.28 million units or 88.9 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two third party games sold a combined 7.18 million units or 11.1 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.

Pokémon and Super Mario Advance are the only two franchises to have more than one game in the top 10. The three Pokémon games sold a combined 32.75 million units or 50.8 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The four Super Mario Advance sold a combined 19.06 million units or 29.6 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.

Top 10 Selling Gameboy Advance Games

Taking a look at the top 10 bestselling games on the Gameboy Advance as a graph really shows how Pokémon was the most popular franchise on the handheld by far. The three Pokémon outsold the other seven games in the top 10.

As a quick note here are other software sales for the Gameboy Advance: The top 23 games sold two million or units and the top 70 games sold one million or more units. The top 156 games sold 500,000 or more units.

318.89 million games were sold on the Gameboy Advance. First party games, published by Nintendo, sold a combined 115.06 million units.

Looking at the best selling GBA games, it's no wonder Nintendo brought back 2D Mario Bros platformers, and focus's so much on Mario, Pokemon and Mario Kart titles. I can't complain though, Super Mario 3D Land looks awesome and hand held Mario Karts are really well made IMO.

From the list I only had the pokemon games, what can I say? Pokemon Emerald was my first pokemon game

Apparently, this was the last system Atari had any kind of notable sales. :-P

well don't forget that atari later sold their name to what used to be called infogrammes I believe after they ran their name into the ground, what was known as atari in the later ps2 and start of the ps3 era wasn't actually the same old company just another crowd using their name.
