3DS holding up very nicely. Sad to see Vita having the highest percent drop.

It remains to be seen how well the Vita does in the USA and Europe. As of right now the Vita seems like a device that would do much better in a western market compared to the eastern markets (i.e. Japan) if only because the software for Vita in the west is looking much stronger than it is for Japan. If Vita stumbles out of the gate here as it did in Japan then Sony's contribution to the handheld market will be in jeopardy. And it can't just blame smartphone/tablet computers either.

This year is likely to be a very mixed bag, HW will drop for some, might rise a few % for others.

Software will also be up for some and down for others at the end of the year.

Clear signal that next-gen should come within 2-3 years max, probably 1-2 years.

Sales drops were expected but the PSVITA is getting dangerously low. Sony really needs to do something. At least the 3DS is holding up nicely, even with the big drop. Hopefully it will soon stabilize.

Too bad pretty much the only thing they can do is lowering the price. That would not have been necessary if they released the right type of software for launch (3DS, anyone?).

It seems Wii U (and hopefully PS4/720) will learn from both consoles mistakes though =)

It's only japan guys and it's only 1 month post-launch. There is still ample room to remedy with Japan-centric software. The launch games were good for the west, and the western market is so much bigger percentage-wise.

Then, add to that the new western appeal we've seen in Japan in late 2011 (COD MW3) and the Vita will probably be a strong competitor in the west and even WW on the long haul. I expect the Vita to perform very similarly to the PS3 globally. It should pretty much be the same market give or take.

I only talked about Japan, and they have already lowered the Vita's price at certain retailers. Like you said; the softwares are ideal for the western market. But the question is if that's enough, or in other words: If people have got economical or physical space left for it.

It's funny because when Sony announced the 250 - 300$ price tag for Vita people were surprised because it was cheap (At that time the 3DS was 250$) and now people say it's overpriced...
Anyway, the price is correct it just need more games

Yeah, the Vita is indeed cheap. Too bad 3DS is way cheaper and has the software advantage. People tend to forget about the hardware then.

I'm liking what those software sales are doing to the tie-in ratio. [sigh] If only we had the tie-in ratios.

Still waiting for the week where 3DS software sales are higher then DS, and then I'll be waiting for that week without a 3DS game release.

I expect YOY to be down across the board for home consoles for a few good weeks still due to exceptionally high sales performance in holiday 2011 and general market fatigue, this is one of many such weeks until proably next fall or 360 price cut, whichever comes first.

Nintendo chose to divert their 1st party to the 3DS and Wii U - sensible decision
