Analyst Predicts New GTA At E310

by Gali Slevin, posted on 15 May 2010 / 3,211 Views

EEDAR's Vice President of Analyst Services, Jesse Divinch told GameInformer in a recent issue that he foresees at least a tease from Rock Star on an upcoming Grand Theft Auto that will likely be released next year.

"I think they'll give you some type of teaser, because we do think that a year from then in 2011 we're going to see another Grand Theft Auto."

Though unlike the exclusive DLC Microsoft bought for GTA 4, Divinch doesn't think that there will be any type of deal for the next iteration of the franchise for either Microsoft or Sony.

"I don't foresee Microsoft or Sony attempting to obtain any type of exclusivity with the next Grand Theft Auto. Microsoft paid a lot of money for exclusivity on the downloadable content for GTA IV, which unfortunately did little to move consoles for Microsoft"

Divinch also reason that Grand Theft Auto was a bigger franchise in it's PS2 days due to lack of competition from other big names.

"Back in 2004, the Grand Theft Auto was a huge brand, but only relative to the other brands that existed at the time.

While the GTA brand is certainly bigger now than it was five years ago, others have emerged to reach similar levels of success such as Call of Duty or Guitar Hero. In other words, if Sony gets an exclusive deal on GTA V, it would do little to disrupt Microsoft's ability to move hardware, and vice versa."

If Rock Star does decide to announce a new GTA at E3 it certainly won't be the only big game they have up their sleeve as rumor has it that the PS3 exclusive Agent will be shown in some form as well.

If they want to redeem themselves, San Andreas 2.

goldingku (on 17 May 2010)

Should be fun

Darth Tigris (on 17 May 2010)

Has any GTA game ever been announced at E3?

Kai Master (on 17 May 2010)

VGC : "E310" seems like an E-something food additive! You should separate E3 and 10. To me GTA is not has been, 15M for GTA4 is as much as GTA3, now that the next-gen (yeah i know, new-gen or current-gen) console base is higher the next GTA could reach 17-23M.

@EyeAmTJ Wow, before a game came out, you said it sucked. How very awesome of you. @Boberman The DLC packs are about ten hours of story a piece, so there you go. I personally prefer the long length of GTA games though. I truly feel like I get my monies worth after I'm done.

EyeAmTJ (on 16 May 2010)

Like i said before gta4 came out...it sucked an didnt deserve a perfect score...the series is dead

Boberman (on 16 May 2010)

@ lurker The game is too long, and the quests are all the same. drive to point A, pick up something or kill someone, drive to point B. I think a 10 hour GTA game would be much better, so I may finish it for a change. (although the bank robbery mission in GT4 was pure awesome)

Lurker (on 16 May 2010)

@pslee Sure, 40+ hour games are definitely not worth $60.

pslee (on 16 May 2010)

to be honest, gta series are not worth $60 per game.

Vice City was awesome in it's own way, and so was San Andreas. GTA4 lacked any of those awesome elements both previous games had. All 4 had was the good looking engine. So I look forward to the next GTA because it should be pretty easy to bring back the fun stuff, while keeping the engine.

All the video game stores better start constructing more preowned shelving for a month after its released :0P

heruamon (on 16 May 2010)

Give me the ability to keep my darn car...yeah...that's a winner for me!

DirtyP2002 (on 16 May 2010)

I just don't like GTA. GTA IV was boring, so was GTA III or other GTA games. Not my cup of tea, sorry.

tripleb2k (on 16 May 2010)

GTA can certainly rebound. If they go back to the crazy antics of the PS2 days (rocket packs, flying, dildos for weapons) they'll get a lot of fans back. here's hoping.

"the GTA brand is certainly bigger now than it was five years ago" Sorry but no. The GTA franchise has been in decline. GTA 4, with it's massive marketing campaign only managed to sell a fraction of what San Andreas did. The expansions to GTA 4 were released as DLC and then at retail. In both places the sales were horrible. The portable versions of GTA have also been failing. Chinatown Wars sold 1m on the DS. Some people like to blame the DS, but then the game sold only a quarter of that on the PSP. This is because GTA has lost it's edge. It turned into a life simulator (bowling, dating, etc). I'm sure the next game will allow you to get married and have kids.

Next they will predict a new Saw movie will be announced!

Hyruken (on 16 May 2010)

I said this ages ago. I also said i would not be surprised one bit to see 360 get it as a timed exclusive. The whole cash they paid for the episodes i cannot see being paid just for time exclusive on dlc. It is a lot of money to part with just for that. It would not surprise me one bit to see GTA5 announced.

brazylianwisnia (on 16 May 2010)

@Carl2291 Agent is Sony owned brand so it won't come on other companies platforms.GTA is in development probably from 2008.I think it will be published in Q1 or Q2 of 2011.

Gojimaster (on 16 May 2010)

As the article stated, GTA is becoming an increasingly irrelevant series. It is no longer the top dog that all gamers flock to. There are too many other great sandbox games. Also, the sandbox genre has gotten a bit stale. Rockstar is even competing with themselves a little bit with great games like Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, and Agent coming out. I don't feel too much of a desire to ever play GTA again unless GTA 5 is so amazing that I cannot ignore it.

dark_gh0st_b0y (on 16 May 2010)

GTA with motion controls!

Slimebeast (on 16 May 2010)

One year too early in my opinion. Even though they are great games, gamers are fed up with Grand Feft Auto. A GTA game should come out every 4 years. So a GTA 5 in 2012, not next year.

Rawnchie14 (on 16 May 2010)

@ DavidValbu Maybe because it's time to expand your horizons, and realize that Nintendo isn't the only video game console maker out there. Rockstar isn't gonna spend time to port to a console with a user base that has less that 5% that care about GTA. Just isn't going to happen. Either they own just a Nintendo console, and don't care for those games, or own a PS3/360 too and will just get it for that instead.

kingofwale (on 16 May 2010)

"GTA CW had solid sales on DS" really??? barely over 1 million for a GTA game (non port) is "solid"?? And we aren't even talking about over 100 million userbase. Don't be expecting another GTA game if people aren't buying it

Ostro (on 16 May 2010)

I'd rather get a nice "GTA: Some City" based on GTA IV engines and all of the GTA stuff that's been in the series put into it.

Carl2291 (on 16 May 2010)

I predicted this already after last E3. Recently though... I've predited "Agent" to be the codename for GTA5. Wont be exclusive to the PS3, just timed.

goldingku (on 16 May 2010)

hat sounds pretty nice actually

starcraft (on 15 May 2010)

I fundamentally disagree with the assertion that GTAIV did little to move consoles for Xbox 360. In my view, it simply leveled what might otherwise have been a very uneven playing field.

brendin24 (on 15 May 2010)

PS3 exclusive :)

DavidValbu (on 15 May 2010)

What about Nintendo? Rockstars Games when are Nintendo fans home-console going to receive a proper GTA? GTA CW had solid sales on DS. Come on, give us some quality game, not crap or poor ports, this generation is getting near to his end.
