by Gabriel Franco , posted on 10 May 2010 / 4,574 Views

At a financial presentation, the company listed the following targets for its big fiscal 2010 releases:

  • Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (PSP): 3.6 million (Japan Only)
  • Dead Rising 2 (PS3/X360): 3.0 million

  • Marvel VS Capcom 3 (PS3/X360): 2.0 million

Monster Hunter was Capcom's biggest franchise in 2009. PSP's Freedom Unite shipped 1.35 million units during the period. Wii's Monster Hunter Tri totaled 1.15 million, all from Japan. Dark Void (no total given, not a good sign!), Bionic Commando (700,000), and Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles (600,000) missed Capcom's targets. 1.15 million shipped 1.03 million sold to customers for MHtri? Maybe very slightly undertracked here on VGChartz.

RIP Wii? At least that's what Capcom believes. Looks like it won't be seeing any new big game this year MH3 will manage 600-700k probably in the west, Sengoku Basara 3 will sell about 300k in all territories plus the legs of older titles, would probably mean that out of those 1.6 million sales they expect, 1 - 1.2 million will come from MH3, Sengoku Basara 3 and other older titles. So the new game (s) they will release for the Wii will be little sellers or 1 medium seller. Probably another rails RE or a variety of older RE ports coupled with a Moto GP.

They are already commited to the HD platforms, looks like Wii is getting the last breath of support. Also, this confirms that there will be no MH3G this year.

@GamerExclusive

Monster Hunter Portable is different from the major version of Monster Hunter, who never left the Sony's portable. So the main version of Monster Hunter never go back to Sony's console because it has never been exclusive to Sony's consoles, unlike the portable version. So that, there is Monster Hunter 1 and 3 for the Wii of the major version of Monster Hunter.

Looks like Monster Hunter is back to Sony, how long before PS3 gets the next main entry?

Yeah, what -ku- said. LP2 is getting destroyed in reviews.

@LoveGenie Yeah the first Lost Planet was great but there is such a concept as sequels failing to make the grade...most of the reviews I've read (for LP2) seem to have liked the first game as well.

I doubt Capcom will reach such high sales. I think they are setting themselves up for a fall!

Lost Planet 2 is going to be hella awesome!! Also shame on anyone that goes by the review sites - if you played Lost Planet 1 you know how epic this will be. :) The unique online play, co-op story mode and single player story mode. With over 100 hours of gameplay on easy mode - this is a massive game. With over 400? unlockables, you will be working for awhile. ;)

It's impossible for Basara and MH3 to do 1.6m on the wii on the next FY.Resident Evil wii confirmed? :D

@menx64

Either that or they expect Sengoku Basara to sell well enough. If that is not released before FY 2011 though.

Well after the new LP2 reviews of 4's and 6's it surely isn't going to meet sales.

Wait, did I something? It's showing 600K for RE:DC, but yet I read several times about how it didn't meet Capcom's expectations. Since when must a game top 1million to be considered to have done well?

PS2 could reach 11 years of game releases, maybe 12!
Oh! By the way : Video games are awesome! ^^

They sure sell a lot of software on Sony hardware, hope to see more support from Capcom.

only Lost Planet 2 and (possibly) Dead Rising 2 on PC then, bah...

SaviorX (on 10 May 2010)

They are expecting a lot from Monster Hunter Freedom 3. I'm not surprised though; its the PSP's biggest series.

They are expecting more from the PS3/360 this year than they have this entire generation. With the exception of maybe one game and a sports title, it seems their Wii support is about finished.

Damn, MHF3 is going to be gigantic in Japan, no doubt about that.

DR2 and LP2 seem a bit too high though.

1.60m for wii fy 2011? Hints for a big new game?... Or are they basing their numbers on MH3 legs?

  • 0
Ravage27 (on 10 May 2010)

Really doubt DR2 will sell that much, though it's interesting to see if fans of the first one will accept the new direction the series is taking

Capcom should be on fire this year, if i had the cash i'd invest!

Quite bold of them to predict 3 million from Dead Rising 2. It's multi-platform now, but I still don't quite see it happening. As always, though, I'd gladly be proven wrong.
