Nintendo announced it will release a physical edition of Tetris 99. The game will includes the latest DLC and a 1 year Nintendo Switch Online subscription for $29.99. It will launch on September 6.

Here is an overview of the game:

In Tetris 99, your goal is to rotate and move falling blocks called Tetriminos to complete horizontal lines. Completed lines disappear, clearing space for more Tetriminos, which fall faster and faster.

Attack other players by sending Garbage Blocks their way! These Garbage Blocks will fill up their screens, making it harder to clear lines.

I wouldnt mind this if Tetris 99 could be played solo/offline and not require subscription. It wouldve allowed me to taste Nintendo Online while buying a game I could enjoy.

It can. The Big Block DLC does exactly that. It has CPU Battle mode where you fight 98 CPUs, and Marathon, which is basically just regular Tetris. It's included with the physical version.

This box contains the DLC, the DLC is offline and solo play modes, 2 of which are unlocked now and another upcoming DLC pack is in the works and should be free along with the dlc that's in the box here.

Well it comes bundled with a subscription, so you'll have that anyway. If you want to skip the subscription, the digital only version is free, I believe, though I don't know if you have to have a subscription to get the DLC for that version. Probably not? Worth a shot if you want to save the $30.

This is pretty cool as an option for parents to buy kids with the Switch so they get them a game and a 12 month online sub along with a physical present for things like birthdays or so. There's always a market out there for "present" type games, and this one is for people who don't wanna shell out for a 60e present, could do well.
