Capcom has announced shipment figures for Monster Hunter: World have hit 7.5 million units worldwide. This figure includes digital sales.

The game has set a new record as the best-selling video game in Capcom history.

Shipment figures for the game reached six million units in early February.

Monster Hunter: World is out now worldwide for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and will launch for Windows PC in fall 2018.

It's only the best selling MonHun game and the best selling Capcom game overall, and that without being on a portable console and after only one month on the market. So much for a game that "belongs to portables".

That said I'm seeing it sold-out everywhere on Xbox while there are still PS4 copies. Whether this is due to strong Xbox sales or just low initial orders by stores is hard to say.
