Why do they constantly need to state that this game is doing well? Are they trying to connivence themselves?

Maybe because people on the internet are trying to convince themselves it failed?

It IS doing well, especially that it took on games like Fallout 4 and it's sales seem to be better than the first Tomb Raider on the 360 even thought the 360 userbase is larger.

Actually he quit and SE's western games have been great partly because of him. But whatever, we can ignore fact.

Tomb Raider 2013 sells through 2.5ish million in first 10 weeks on PS360 and is "disappointing". Rise of the Tomb Raider sells through 1.4ish million in the first 10 weeks across Xb one / 360 and is off to a solid start. Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

If digital entertainment section isn't all game software (not just digital distribution) then there's something weird about the revenue and income from that segment compared to the whole company.

People confused disappointing sales with failure, the reality is the game was still profitable after like 9 months. I think the sales of the last Tomb Raider and only being on X1 changed expectations for realistic expectations. Also, the big bag of money MS gave SE helped pay the bills.

Except the fact 2.5m on 170+m consoles combined compared to 100+m for 1.4m copies shows you didn't do your research. Plus MS also funded SE. There is no need to complain. Its in a very healthy boat and the games are still selling.

^^Sprash userbase makes a difference.

I know, it makes such a difference that a game that sold 1 million copies on a 10 million userbase would have sold 1 trillion copies if the userbase was 10 trillion^^

Sales and userbase arent equal. But it certainly helps potential sales.

Thank you for being the voice of reason Pugg... I think some people around here forgot that Square Enix had unrealistic expectations last gen in a larger userbase. Their expectations probably shrunk when they limited the game to one brand and number 2...

Tomb Raider is tracking 1.34 million and thats ignoring digital sales of consoles and PC. I think people are also ignoring money MS paid to get that as an exclusive. SE didnt do that because they love MS.

Don't worry Square, I can imagine how "Solid" the start was, especially from tomb raider.

Well last time they said the last Tomb Raider failed to meet expectations. Forum dwellers interpreted that as failure, even though it was profitable in under a year. This is likely going to sell over 2 million on Xbox platforms. I think some people just had unrealistic expectations.

Rise of tomb raider didnt do great imo. It more Fail of tomb raider.
with less then 2 million sale (among those about 600000 was free with the x1 console)

Solid start is just a nice way of saying, they underperformed expectations, imo.

Mr Puggsly Sixteenvolt420 (on 04 February 2016)

But what were the expectations? 2, 3, 4 million?

  • -1
Sprash Sixteenvolt420 (on 05 February 2016)

There was a article how the publisher wanted to increase sales with the deal with microsoft so with that in mind the expectations were more than the first game.

Well its possible ROTTR will sell more on Xbox platforms than the last game. Especially when digital numbers are included. Were you expecting double the sales?

One comes in April the other probably in November. I think you'll be in the mood for a great action game in the holiday. Especially if Sony front loads this year again.
